3 Objectives & Themes World over, food security is threatened by population growth, declining per capita arable land and water scarcity. In future, droughts, floods, cold snaps, untimely rains and heat spells are likely to be more frequent and severe. Achievements today in plant biotechnology have already surpassed all previous expectations and the future is even more promising. The full realization of the agricultural biotechnology revolution depends on both continued successful and innovative research and developmental activities and on a favourable regulatory climate and public acceptance. Human survival, vis-a-vis a continuous increase in agricultural productivity, depends on the effective merging of classical breeding with modern plant biotechnology. Plant Biotechnology has immensely contributed and provided insights in plant science research in agriculture and allied sciences. Plant biotechnologist along with plant breeder, physiologist, pathologist, entomologist and agronomist can deliver the extra food required by population growth. So integration of modern biology, computational biology with plant breeding will make the future crop improvement endeavors highly successful. Therefore, National Seminar on Plant Genomics and Biotechnology: Challenges and Opportunities in 21 st Century to be hosted at this university is the need of the hour. The purpose of this seminar is to encourage active participation of young scholars of this region to showcase their progress in biotechnological research and other allied areas. Hopefully, plant scientists and academicians from various universities as well as research institutions across the country will participate and exchange their meaningful research outcomes and share their views on aforesaid theme to prepare a road map on national food security despite future challenges.

4 Technical Programme The concurrent sessions of Invited Lectures, Contributory Papers and Poster Presentation will be held covering the following theme areas: Genomics and crop improvement Proteomics, Metabolic Engineering, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Plant Tissue Culture and Genetic Engineering Agro-biotechnology, biofertilizers and biopesticides Food, Feed and Fermentation Biotechnology Forest and Environmental Biotechnology Plant Genetic Resources, Conservation and Utilization Conventional and Molecular Breeding Climate Change and Biotechnology Technology Transfer System and Livelihood Option Scientific Programme & Abstract The seminar features Invited Lectures, Lead Lectures and Oral Presentations of registered participants besides Poster Presentations. There will be a special session for Young Scientists (below the age of 35 years) for presentation of research papers. Participants are requested to send typed abstracts in duplicate on good quality A-4 size paper leaving 2.5 cm margin along with a soft copy of the same through attachment. The file should have the name of author presenting paper. The abstract should be typed in English using MS word single space (Font Times New Roman, Font size 12) and should not exceed 250 words. Abstracts should mention title of the paper, name(s) of author (s) followed by their address and . The name of author presenting the paper should be underlined. The hard copy of the abstract should be sent to the Organizing Secretary. The soft copy of the abstract should be submitted by to headabt_bbsr@rediffmail.com/ samalkcouat@gmail.com on or before 31st December, 2015 Presentation Guidelines Oral presentation: The oral presentations will be restricted to 15 and 10 minutes, respectively. Participants are requested to prepare presentations on MS power point for LCD presentation. Poster presentation: There will be structured and organized poster sessions each day to encourage a wide participation. The best poster in each session will be considered for award. An area of 120 cm x 90 cm (Portrait size) will be provided for the poster. Necessary materials for poster display will also be provided. Young scientists sessions: There will be a Young Scientists Session, in which students and scientists up to 35 years of age can participate. Candidates have to submit the proof of age before participation.

5 Registration Participants are requested to register for the Seminar on or before 20 th January, 2016 by paying a registration fee (non refundable) at the following rates, through demand draft/pay order in favor of National Seminar on Plant Genomics and Biotechnology, payable at SBI, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. Out station cheques will not be accepted. However, the participants can deposit the registration fee in the following SBI Bank Account National Seminar on Plant Genomics and Biotechnology, Account No , IFSC code-sbin , MICR code under intimation to the Organizing Secretary by submitting the photocopy of the payment slip. Local Excursion Tour A local excursion tour of the city covering visits to historical temples, Konark Sun Temple, Puri Temple and beaches will be arranged.
