1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Grade: Responsible to: Business Intelligence Developer 5 (plus market supplement) Head of Business Intelligence Date: January 2017 Job purpose The Business Intelligence Developer post will work within the Business Information System Development (BISD) team, and will be based at the Penryn Campus. The role will support the Business Intelligence team providing technical report writing, data quality and technical data analysis resource for the Business Intelligence programme. The BI programme is a transformational programme of work which aims to improve data quality and the related business processes which drive the institutional information cycle, developing solutions to improve the delivery and dissemination of strategic management information. The BISD team provide a key link between ICT services and academic and administrative staff across the University. The team is pivotal in co-ordinating the business analysis, technical development, and project management for the implementation and development of the key corporate management information systems that underpin the University s activity as a business. Main duties and responsibilities 1. To provide technical data analysis, development and report writing services for the Business Intelligence Programme. 2. Working within the Business Intelligence team, this role will contribute to all aspects of the design and delivery of the MS SSRS / B.I suite.

2 3. To support the Head of Business Intelligence in the development of the strategic management information system, including the MI Data Warehouse and executive dashboards. 4. To undertake technical data analysis to build and maintain a data enterprise architecture model, identifying data sources from key institutional business systems that are required in the institutional information cycle. 5. To undertake technical data analysis and work with business stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve data quality through the development of data quality assurance reports to support the institutional information cycle. 6. To work with the FXPlus Data Architecture team to identify opportunities to improvement cross system data integration to support the institutional information cycle. 7. To work with Business data analysts and stakeholders to identify improvements to business processes to support the information cycle. 8. Provide production support for operational and reporting systems. 9. Lead development and integration testing activities and plan and manage end User Acceptance Testing. 10. Adhere to Falmouth s project methodology standards. 11. Document software solutions, as appropriate, based on best practice as outlined by Waterfall, Agile and Dynamic Systems Development Method lifecycles. 12. Monitor and advise on the technical progress of projects and their impact, ensuring that co-ordination and change control is applied to technical specifications and infrastructure. 13. Escalate major technical issues and make recommendations for their resolution, ensuring that all changes are managed effectively whilst participating in the institutional Change Management Board, and contribute to formal reviews and evaluations when projects and programmes end. 14. To provide group training for all departments including senior executives on the operation of new and existing systems. 15. To assist technical colleagues in learning to support the reporting suite and interfaces developed. This will include writing comprehensive system documentation and training notes to enable the on-going support of the end solutions. 16. To represent Falmouth at external stakeholder groups and networking functions, including JISC Transformations groups and associated external funding event commitments. 17. 3 18. To make recommendations on further potential enhancement work. General duties and responsibilities 19. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in data warehouse and/or business intelligence development, or comparable IT field. Project management (IT) training ITIL Foundation Microsoft certified Agile Project Management Experience Experience/ Knowledge Extensive experience of designing complex time sensitive reports using MS SSRS. Experience of designing, implementing and managing a Corporate Data Warehouse. Hands on experience of commercial use of the Microsoft BI Stack: * MS SSIS (Integration Services) * MS SSAS (Analysis Services) * MS SQL Server 2012 Dimensional Modelling OLAP Cube Development Sound structured software development methodologies: Agile, Waterfall or similar Experience of working within Higher Education environment Integrating SSRS within Sharepoint Power BI High Availability techniques and concepts RDBMS Clustering exposure MDX SQL Server Tuning and Optimisation \0701\Sept2014 Page 4 of 5

Able to effectively deal with and interpret the requirements of both technical and nontechnical users of key MI Systems.
