3 BLE beacons Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons are used to monitor footfall and occupancy through facilities from the start of a person s day to their exit at the end of the day The deep data set beacons collect drives insight and helps to understand how personnel typically move through your facilities enabling you to identify patterns. 5 How beacons capture data Gateways accept signals from different sources including smart phones, media access control (MAC) addresses and Smart Badges 5

6 Smartphone app (Bluetooth) An app installed on your employees smartphones activates every time it receives a signal from a beacon Smartphones are likely to be carried with employees throughout their day which ensures accurate data capture The app also collects data from other sensors accelerometer, compass & gyroscope Passive monitoring the app does not consume much battery power nor does it act as a surveillance tool monitoring what personnel do on their phones 6

7 MAC address (WiFi) Beacons scan for passing media access center (MAC) addresses broadcasting from an employee s devices (i.e. laptop, tablet or phone) Employee locations are triangulated based on scans from multiple beacons No additional software / hardware is required Minimal set-up requirements 7
