1 SECTION DOOR HARDWARE PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: Hardware and related items for interior and exterior doors, other than specified in specific door sections. B. Coordinate with Owner for keying requirements. C. Coordinate with Owner s Security Consultant for security hardware SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Performance Requirements: The Manufacturer or Authorized Distributor shall confirm that there is an established local agency which stocks a full complement of parts and offers service during normal working hours for the finish hardware to be furnished and that the agency will supply parts without delay and at reasonable cost. B. Furnish and install hardware complete for intended use in doors and frames of the dimensions, profile, security and similar requirements indicated, specified or necessary for proper installation and function and meeting or exceeding the quality requirements as specified herein regardless of omissions or conflicts in the information in the Contract Documents SUBMITTALS A. Provide seven (7) copies typed DHI format submittals with three (3) sets of product cut sheets of each type of hardware required for Project, in accordance with Section 01300, using established numbering system. Indicate the following: 1. Style and finish. 2. Locations and mounting heights of each item of hardware. 3. Include a complete listing of equipment and materials including manufacturer, catalog number, finish, diagrams, (including cut-sheets), schematics and all other pertinent data. B. Templates: Supply to Door and Frame Manufacturer(s) to enable proper and accurate sizing and locations of cutouts for hardware. C. Certification: At the completion of installation, certify that material is properly installed according to Manufacturers printed instructions. D. Operating and Maintenance Data: Submit per Section Provide Owner with Manufacturer's parts list and maintenance instructions for each type of hardware supplied and necessary wrenches and tools required for proper maintenance of hardware QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Standards: Comply with the following: 1. ANSI/NFPA 80 - Fire Doors and Windows. 2. UL Standard Panic Hardware. B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with the following: 98055A Rev. 4 December 23, 1998
2 1. ANSI A117.1 "Making Buildings and Facilities Accessible to and Usable by Physically Handicapped People." 2. Public Law "The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). 3. ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). 4. Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS). 5. The Arizonans with Disabilities Act of 1992 Administrative Rules (AzDAAG) C. Supplier Qualifications: 1. Employ an AHC member of the DHI. 2. Factory authorized stocking distributor of the approved items. 3. Holder of legally required licenses. D. Manufacturer Qualifications: 5 years experience in manufacture of comparable systems. E. Regulatory Requirements: 1. Hardware listed or furnished shall meet requirements of Federal, State and Local codes having jurisdiction. 2. Any item furnished or installed that does not meet code requirements shall be removed and proper items substituted at no additional cost or expense to the Owner. 3. Provide hardware for fire-rated openings in compliance with A.I.A. (NBFU) Pamphlet No. 80 and NFPA Standards No. 80 and No This requirement shall take precedence over other requirements for such hardware. 4. Provide hardware which has been tested and listed by U.L. for the types and sizes of doors required, and which complies with the requirements of the doors and door frame labels. 5. Provide 3-point latches at aluminum double doors used as entrance, not egress exit. 6. Hardware on all doors leading to or from electrical rooms, mechanical rooms, service stairs, dock areas and the like which represent a hazard to the blind, shall have knurling or abrasive coating on the door lever, handle, or bar which will alert the user to potential perils present. The hardware product and installation shall satisfy all governing handicapped codes DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Packing and Shipping: Package each item of hardware in original and individual containers, complete with all necessary fastenings, keys, instructions, and templates for spotting mortising tools. 1. Mark each container with its item number corresponding to the item number on the finish hardware schedule. 2. Containers holding locks shall show the following corresponding to that shown on the finish hardware schedule: a. Heading number b. Door number c. Hand of door (when required) d. Keying symbol (developed by Owner) 3. A typewritten schedule in DHI format conforming with the approved schedule shall accompany each shipment. B. When hardware must be installed at the factory, the hardware supplier shall send all such needed items to the respective supplier for their use in installation. The cost of this shipping requirement shall be borne by the hardware supplier. C. Acceptance at Site: Upon delivery of the finish hardware to the job site, check in and sign for all material delivered and thereafter be responsible for same A Rev. 4 December 23, 1998
3 D. Storage and Protection: Provide a secured area with sufficient space and shelving in which to store and inventory all materials under lock and key. Protect hardware from damage at all times. E. Permanent keys will not be made available to the General Contractor or any Subcontractor or Supplier under any circumstances WARRANTY A. Repair, replace or otherwise correct deficient materials and workmanship at no additional cost to Owner as indicated below: 1. Typical: 2 years, except as follows: 2. Locksets: 5 years. 3. Closers: 10 years. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. To the greatest extent possible, obtain all hardware of the same type from only one Manufacturer HARDWARE A. General: 1. Locking devices which secure both sides of any door are not permitted. 2. Function as listed in Door & Hardware Schedule. 3. Finish: Builders Hardware Mfr. Assoc. (BHMA) 612, Satin Bronze, clear coated (US10), unless indicated otherwise. B. CYLINDERS / KEYWAY: 1. Manufacturer: Match lockset manufacturer. 2. Cylinders: Removable core type to fit all locking devices specified herein. Design shall permit removal of cylinder without removing locking device from door. Installed flush within hardware or furnish trim ring. 3. Removable Cores Construction: Furnish keyed-alike temporary cores for use during construction. Provide three (3) keys to Contractor. 4. Removable Cores Permanent: Keyed per factory registered numbers for existing master key sets and individual keying instructions to be furnished by Owner. Factory keyed unless otherwise authorized in writing by the Owner. 5. Permanent Keys: Stamp one side "DO NOT DUPLICATE". Tag master key sets and change keys for easy identification. 6. While the hardware schedule is intended to cover all doors and establish a type and standard of quality, it shall remain the specific duty and responsibility of the finish hardware supplier to review the plans and specifications and furnish proper hardware for all openings, whether listed or not. 8 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verification of Conditions: Examine conditions under which finish hardware will be installed. Report deficiencies to the Architect. B. Walls to receive proper backing for wall bumpers as specified in Section Rough Carpentry INSTALLATION A. Install hardware in accordance with Manufacturer's recommendations, using proper templates. A. Maintain ANSI standard mounting heights for doors, from finished floor to center line of hardware item. B. Knox Box: Recessed into wall construction and rigidly anchored in place at locations indicated on Drawings in accordance with requirements for Fire Department access. C. Fasten closers on wood or mineral core doors with conventional fasteners, unless sex nuts and bolts are required by UL. Other than that required by UL, no sex nuts and bolts shall be allowed for installation. D. For surface mounted closer, pivot hinges, concealed closers or holders or other hardware mortised into the top or bottom edges, edges shall be a minimum of 4-1/2 inches (115mm), thoroughly kiln-dried hardwood. E. Locate wall bumpers to prevent lockset lever or closer from touching wall CLEANING A. During the course of the Work and on completion, remove and dispose of excess materials, equipment and debris away from premises. Leave Work in clean condition in accordance with Section SCHEDULES A.
