9 Mobility Arad Urban Transport Project project financed by EBRD Project amount 41 mil. Euro : EBRD loans 33 mil. Euro: 20 mil (loan 2005, for phase I)+ 13 mil. (loan 2009, for phase II) The project is intended to improve the City of Arad s urban transport infrastructure through investment in tram track rehabilitation (total length: 11,8 km) Street and pedestrian area upgrading along the modernized tram tracks, traffic signal modernization for an integrated traffic system. The project is also intended to improve the overall operational performance of the public transport system in the city of Arad. WB TRAINING TOUR, 9
10 Mobility Bicycle route The main objective of the project is the modernization and extension of the existing bicycling lanes in Arad. The midand long term aim is to implement a coherent system or network for bicycling which would allow a fluent and safe travel. The new bicycle route will be km, located in the city, along the Mures river and the Natural Park Mures meadows. WB TRAINING TOUR, 10
11 Services and environment Water and Wastewater Arad Municipal Services Project project financed by IBRD Project amount: World Bank (IBRD) loan: 73.1 mil. Euro 47.2 mil. Euro The objective of the municipal services project is to directly improve the quality of water and wastewater services and reduce flooding of low lying city areas where new drainage networks will be built. The target-area of the project covers a surface of 1,755 hectares and reaches a population of inhabitants in three districts Gai, Bujac and Sânicolaul Mic. WB TRAINING TOUR, 11

13 Enegy Photovoltaic energy The project Extension of the public lighting in Arad, by implementing solutions to generate electric power by using photovoltaic solar energy aims to extend the public lighting systems in certain areas of the city lacking this service. The target of this project is to get equipped with the following: 800 poles and AIL LED 120W along the city by-pass, 600 poles and AIL LED 60W along the bicycle lanes, and 280 poles and AIL LED 90W mounted in 70 playground locations. Solar energy The municipality also applied for national funds to equip several educational and social objectives (schools, day care centers) with new systems to generate heating and hot water by using the solar energy.
