2 In the last 24 hours.. Proposal EU Directive for the Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (January 9, 2013): Art 5 is dedicated to Hydrogen (first art in any EU Directive!): 1. Member States shall ensure that the hydrogen refuelling points existing existing in their territory are complemented to a network no later than 31 December All hydrogen refuelling points for motor vehicles shall be compliant with the technical standards as defined in Annex III.2 no later than by 31 December 2012: - ISO/TS 20100: 2008 gaseous hydrogen fuelling standard - SAE J 2601 (201) fuelling protocol fro light duty gaseous hydrogen vehicles - ISO for connectors TEN-T : The Trans European Network for Transport - road, maritime, rail and aviation infrastructure. Need for alternative fuel infrastructure are mentioned in new TEN T Guidelines. EHA in collaboration with HyER has supported winning Hydrogen for Infrastructure in Transport HIT proposal for 2012 Call. TEN T Call is out November 28, 2012, deadline February 28, 2013 Page 2

14 Current Progress in CHIC Cities Oslo: 5 FCH buses and a new H2 station were launched on May 30, 2012 Blow of steam on the red line to the Oslo National Theatre! London: 5 buses have been operating on RV1 since 2 years. Milestone of 1,000 refuellings reached this summer; Aarau: 5 buses are operating around Brugg and recent test in mountain regions (Davos) succesfully completed; Buses and HRS will soon operate in Milan and Bolzano. 17 FCH JU: HyTransit Hydrogen Transit Buses in Scotland A novel hybrid FC bus fleet for transit applications expanding the European H2 bus market to Scotland; A H2 corridor connecting the North with the South of the UK, and to the wider European H2 network; 6 FCH buses; an industrial consortium across Europe (Van Hool (BE), BOC (UK), Dantherm Power (DK), Stagecoach (UK), First Group (UK)); 5 member states; Breakthroughs Duration: 4 years Budget: 11.4 million EU contribution: 7 million 14 hours and 270km per day operation; 46 seated passengers; Maximum speed >80 km/h; Refuelling station supplied from H2 generated at a nearby wind farm; refuelling time >5 minutes; 30% to 50% CO2 reduction vs diesel buses; H2 cost: 6 euro/kg, assuming 200kg/day. 19 HyER European Electro-mobility Observatory EEO HyER was awareded EC contract to manage the European Electro- mobility Observatory The EEO brings together, evaluate and disseminate data and experiences from electro-mobility projects and programs across Europe to: Monitor progress and trends; Identify best practices; Identify bottlenecks; Enable fact based policy-making. On 27 February 2012 a monitoring pilot involving 8 regions and cities was launched. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hamburg, North Rhine- Westphalia, London, Milan, Poitou-Charentes and Oslo) Page 19 19
20 Hydrogen Infrastructure for Transport (HIT) HyER Facilitated TEN T proposal for last TENT Call 7 partners, with the support of 5 EU Member States and the EU Trans European Network for Transport (TEN T) program; Synchronized Implementation Plan for (HRS) rollout along a 1000 km corridor from Gothenburg to Rotterdam; One pilot station of Air Liquide in Rotterdam; 2 pilot stations in DK by H2Logic and link to initiatives already underway in Germany and the UK. Geographical planning aligned with the EU s TENtec mapping system to allow smooth integration of information of hydrogen infrastructure developments in existing EU project management systems.. 30 HyFACTS Project achievements Develop modular material for training of regulators and safety officials Focus on hydrogen safety approaches and standards Main target : safety auditors and permibng officials Develop a vision and road- map for permanent training ac1vi1es Impact will be to shorten approval process for hydrogen installa1ons The HyFacts project aims to develop and disseminate fully up- to- date contemporary material in the form of customized training packages for regulators and public safety experts providing accurate informa1on on the safe and environmentally friendly use of hydrogen as an energy carrier for sta1onary and transport applica1ons under real condi1ons. The training material will focus on the fundamental aspects of hydrogen safety and on the safety approaches and criteria developed in standards and according to which hydrogen systems are engineered for the safe use of hydrogen under all circumstances.
