2 Objectives / Background AIMS Development of Water Observation and Information System (WOIS) for monitoring, assessing and inventorying water resources in a cost-effective manner by satellite observation, with focus on operational Sentinel data. Implementation, capacity building and training of African water authorities to fully exploit the observation capacity offered. 2

28 Sentinel Processing Capacity On 13th April, Sentinel-1 send some of the first data over Nambia. WOIS was used to process the first S-1 data, extract the water body and create the flood map to be able to assess the flood extent. The data was downloaded and processed within less than three hours! The WOIS enabled the first S1 capturing of the flooding in the entire Caprivi plain from the Zambezi River! 28
