For further information regarding YMCA Victoria, please visit Facility Description The Knox Leisureworks YMCA is an important community facility, managed by YMCA Victoria in partnership with Knox City Council. In undertaking daily duties and decision making at Knox Leisureworks YMCA all staff will ensure that the principles of the following mission statement are the foundation of all actions; In managing Knox Leisureworks, the YMCA will work in partnership with the Knox City Council and the local community to deliver the best outcomes in the following areas; Provide a significant contribution to the development of individuals and the Knox community To provide facilities and services, that promote inclusiveness and Access for All To produce the best business result To produce the best environmental outcomes Knox Leisureworks YMCA has a huge range of facilities comprising 5 indoor & 2 outdoor swimming pools, 80 metre waterslide, fully equipped gymnasium, group fitness room with over 40 weekly classes, spin studio, childcare facilities, café and family & disabled change facilities. The centre has undergone enormous growth in recent years and enjoys a reputation of leadership in the areas of aquatic education, customer service, quality management systems and community development.

2 Position Summary Classification / Grade: RE Grade 5B Employment Status: Casual Minimum Qualifications: AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infants and Preschool Aquatics Level 2 First Aid or equivalent CPR Working with Children Check Desirable: AUSTSWIM Towards Competitive Strokes AUSTSWIM Teacher of Adults AUSTSWIM Teacher of Access and Inclusion Knowledge of Links The Teacher In Charge at Knox Leisureworks will be committed to quality customer service, safety and the pursuit of excellence in YMCA Swimming Lesson programs. The position requires an energetic and responsible person who can maintain a complete knowledge of all aspects of teaching swimming and water safety. They will provide leadership to the Swimming Teachers through training, mentoring and supervision. They will also have strong communication skills which will enable them to communicate well with parents, students and Swimming Teachers and management. 3 Key Deliverables Customer Satisfaction Ensure correct conduct of classes and delivery of the YMCA Swimming Lesson program Liaise between teachers and parents on children s Swimming Lessons Maintaining high customer satisfaction levels Ensure quality levels are maintained in all areas of aquatic operation Ensure safety during the delivery of the YCMA Swimming Lesson program Ensure the YMCA Swimming Lesson Program is undertaken in accordance with YMCA best practice Complete program upgrades and associated administration Assist weekly with lane allocation scheduling Carry out Swimming Lesson assessments when required Ensure minimum and maximum class occupancy rates are maintained through proactive and innovative program upgrades Understanding of the YMCA Swimming Lesson program, levels and class names. Familiarisation with participants and their skill level Teaching Attributes Commitment to YMCA philosophy in relation to aquatic programs; educational and teaching standards Display interest, enthusiasm, patience, respect and innovation to students and peers. Construct and implement lesson plans that promote group teaching methods, combining stroke development with water safety and enhancing the developmental assets aspect of YMCA programs. Structures and designs lessons with appropriate activities that enhance student interaction and collaboration Challenges and develops students student s values and attitudes Provide all participants with essential water safety and personal survival safety skills Commitment to quality customer service and safety Ensure feedback is given to parents and their children Communication Listens and is objective and non judgemental Uses respectful language Exhibits concern and interest for the feelings and experiences of others Exhibits personal values and behaviour that instils trust Initiates and nurtures group interaction Teacher and models effective problem solving and conflict negotiation Communicates effectively and regularly with the Aquatics Director, Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Team Leader and other Aquatic staff. Cooperates with the Lifeguard team to promote aquatic awareness and safe practices. Administration Work within a team environment to ensure safe, professional & appropriate preparation for class commencement for timely and effective set up / lesson delivery & neatly pack up of all aquatic education equipment Construct and submit for archiving, appropriate lesson plans Ensure appropriate, accurate and legible attendance and competency records are completed, collated and submitted for archiving Ensure all lessons start and finish on time Throughout lessons continually assess participants progress and where appropriate recommend students for upgrading.

4 Where appropriate mark off and sign students certificates Attendence at 4 training/meeting sessions per year. Work within a team environment to ensure safe, timely and effective set up / lesson delivery & pack up Ensure appropriate attendance and competency records are completed, collated and submitted of archiving Comply with legislative and organisational requirements relating to: Current water restrictions Occupational health and safety Guidelines for safe pool operation Workcover YMCA Risk Management YMCA Aquatic administration and policies AUSTSWIM Guidelines AUSTSWIM Code of conduct Community Strengthening Understands the unique needs of families and can respond appropriately Exhibits concern for the well-being of others and interest in the feelings and experiences of others. Frequently communicates, sharing information with parents related to children's experiences, family strengthening tips and resource options, and YMCA program opportunities.
