1 Islamic Relief Worldwide Protection and Inclusion Officer (Child Protection) BASE LOCATION: REPORTING TO: LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: PURPOSE OF DIVISION: Birmingham or London. Child Protection and Inclusion Advisor (CPIA) None Through capacity building and through technical and programme support, the International Programme Division keeps the organisation focused on the socio-economic and humanitarian needs of vulnerable people. The division reinforces IR s implementing structure to enable these people and their communities to develop themselves sustainably, and ensures that the organisation is prepared to respond promptly and effectively to humanitarian crises. The division increases the organisation s ability to tackle poverty by developing and fostering partnerships and institutional relationships effectively and proactively, and by ensuring transparent and timely reporting to the organisation s donors. JOB PURPOSE: In the context of IRW Global strategy, this role strengthens our commitment towards Protection and inclusion, and ensures no one gets left behind. The Child Protection and Inclusion Officer will work closely with the Child Protection and Inclusion Advisor (CPIA) in the context of IRW international strategy, SDG s and Leave no one behind agenda, with the aim to support the development and preparation of the Child Protection/Child Safeguarding initiatives. This would involve engaging in the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on progress of child protection projects with Islamic Relief country offices. The role will also include when needed to ensure support of country offices through developing and delivering training, coordinating learning and networking. 1

3 SCOPE AND AUTHORITY Scope of the Role IR Family International Programmes Department (IPD), Global Operations and Humanitarian Department. Inclusion and Protection Advisors and PQ team. Engaging global child protection focal points Supporting and working closely with Orphans/Child Welfare Managers in the maintaining of child protection minimum standards throughout actions and activities. Responsibility for Resources: Supporting and maintaining data collection on child protection audit in partnership with orphans department. Follow up and data collection on child protection trainings and Channels of Hope workshops. Creating and update databank on child protection case studies from IR family. Up keep of extranet KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES Programme design & Delivery 1. Support and contribute to project design processes to ensure quality child protection inclusive projects. 2. Contribute & support CPIA in any protection and inclusion deliverable in line with IR strategy and PQ implementation plan. 3. Assist CPIA in the effective process and assurance system in place for quality grant management of donor bids such as SIDA. 4. Support and design programmes with IR family to deliver commitments on channels of hope child protection. Capability Building 5. Support and contribute to IRW tools and discussions which assess child protection, protection and inclusion. 6. Support and facilitate in the design, monitoring and implementation of the training and workshop to IR family. 7. Assist in the development and delivery of channels of hope child protection 3

4 trainings/workshops. 8. Lead on delivering child protection/safeguarding training to staff and IR Partners and on some occasions to co facilitate training sessions. Learning and innovation 9. Support and coordinate the work of the CPIA to ensure timely and quality production of learning products. 10. Maintain the upkeep of the knowledge base in relations to child protection materials and resources. 11. Coordinate internal and external inputs required for writing, editing, design and production of reports and programme learning products. 12. Support and lead on the development of learning products for our child protection, protection and inclusion work. This may also include the work done by other advisors and PQ team when necessary. 13. Taking ownership/leading on certain projects within the department. 14. Proactively exchange learning and synergy with all involved stakeholders. 15. Carry out other duties as may be assigned or required from time to time. External engagement/influence and partnerships 16. Participate and engage on external platforms on behalf of child protection, protection and inclusion team. 17. Co-ordinate travel and other arrangements that may be required for child protection, protection and inclusion team for external engagement. 18. Network and attend meetings with key stakeholders such as, Keeping Children Safe, Bond and Child Protection Working Group etc. 19. Working closely with other department, initiating, developing and influencing the policies, processes and projects of those departments. 4

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL Experience Good knowledge of current sector in relation to protection mainstreaming and inclusion. Track record of working for International NGO. Experience of writing and communicating learning effectively, internally and externally. Work well with Microsoft package. Skills Strong communication and representation skills Ability to synthesis data and information effectively Report/toolkit writing skills in English Excellent inter-personal and presentation skills Excellent analytical skills Good oral presentation skills. Training skills. Working calmly under pressure and meeting strict deadlines Pre-requisites Willingness and ability to travel abroad (20%) Team worker Proactive approach Desirable Working knowledge and/or experience of faith approaches in relation to protection and inclusion. Awareness of child protection minimum standards (CPMS) End violence against children Qualifications A graduate degree Skills Other Other language skills particularly French and Arabic It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and empathy with the Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to IRW s vision and mission.
