1 CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AT KENYA LITERATURE BUREAU (KLB) Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) is established under Kenya Literature Bureau Act, Cap 209 of 1980 with the mandate to publish, print, and disseminate literary, educational, cultural and scientific books and other materials. KLB is the leading publisher in East Africa and is home to some of the world's top authors, researchers and experts in book publishing and printing. The Bureau is looking for highly competent; results oriented and dedicated individuals of high integrity who are able to demonstrate strong leadership skills to fill the following positions: 1. Publishing Manager Job Ref HR PUM The job holder is responsible for provision of leadership and management of the publishing function that develops quality books along KLB s business goals so that it can achieve its mission and vision. Duties and Responsibilities i. Develop and implement departmental strategic plans in line with KLB mandate; Formulate editorial policy within management guidelines; Develop annual publishing budgets, monitor and institute implementation plans to ensure accurate and timely expenditure returns; Plan and implement sound publication plans and product development initiatives to increase growth and profitability of the organisation; v. Manage the KLB authorship and author-publisher relations effectively to ensure continual product/market innovation and quality;

2 v v ix. Initiate policy reviews, develop programmes and schedules so as to achieve company objectives and set production targets in liaison with HODs; Manage internal processes to comply with Quality Management Standards; Liaise with suppliers of book production services to meet set production targets and achieve the desired product quality; Analyse educational trends and correctly interpret new curriculum and syllabi for the organisation; x. Manage copyright matters to ensure compliance with statutory requirements; xi. x x x Liaise with Sales and Marketing Department and authors to obtain market information to enhance product attributes; Liaise with the Production Department to ensure timely production and delivery of quality products that meet the Bureau s standards; Make legal deposits for new publications/editions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements; Supervise, coach and mentor staff for improved performance. i. Bachelor s Degree in Education or social sciences or its equivalent in a relevant field; Master s Degree in a relevant field; Minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience with at least 5 years at senior management/leadership position; Sound knowledge of the publishing and printing industry and curriculum development; v. Exposure to e-book development and publishing; Build strong networks and partnership with stakeholders both local and external;

Assistant Production Manager Job Ref HR APM The job holder is responsible for coordination of the printing, bindery and pre-press sections of the production department to ensure optimum utilisation of resources for optimum print productivity. Duties and Responsibilities i. Review and determine competitive cost estimates for customers on cost of production; Allocate work orders as they will apply in each production unit; Coordinate production activities for optimal utilisation of staff and equipment; Monitor production processes for quality control to limit waste and spoilage; v. Analyse and prepare reports on quality control problems; Coordinate preventive maintenance of all machines; v Supervise and mentor sectional staff for improved performance; i. Bachelor s Degree in Printing Technology or Bachelor of Philosophy in Printing or its equivalent. Master s Degree is an added advantage;

Senior Supply Chain Officer (Warehouse) Ref HR SSCO The job holder is responsible for managing and distributing the organisation s finished goods in a timely manner, preventing wastage and loss while keeping the stock at a minimum to ensure efficient utilisation of resources. Duties and Responsibilities: i. Ensure effective delivery of quality goods and services in line with the service charter; Monitor and evaluate the distribution process to ensure timely delivery of goods; Manage the section s internal processes to ensure compliance with the quality management system; Develop and distribute stock management reports through the inventory management business application system; v. Prepare loading plans and ensure that standard waybills are dully completed for smooth operations; Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while complying with the Bureau s policies; v Supervise and mentor sectional staff for improved performance;

Work with identified service providers to ensure timely delivery of goods to our customers; Custodian of Stocks and ensures adequate security and safety measures are implemented to prevent pilferage or leakage and x. Ensure orderly arrangement of the stock items to avoid damages. i. Bachelor s Degree in Social Sciences or Supply Chain Management, or equivalent from recognised institution or in a related field; Masters of Business Administration or a relevant field is an added advantage; Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience with at least three (3) years at senior management/ leadership position; Member of Kenya Institute of Supplies Management or relevant body in good standing. A Licenced practitioner. v. Senior Supply Chain Officer ( Procurement ) Job Ref HR SSCO The job holder is responsible to the Supply Chain Manager for procurement planning, processing and contract management to ensure the Bureau gets maximum value for its resources. Duties and Responsibilities: i. Manage the functions of the Procurement section to ensure attainment of the Bureau s goals and objectives; Manage sectional internal processes for compliance with the quality management system; Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while complying with the Bureau s policies; Develop framework contracts following completion of tender processes, and recommend award of contract based on approved budgets; v. Prepare, compile and submit monthly and quarterly reports on procurement process to the Supply Chain manager; v v ix. Advise the Evaluation Committee as and where appropriate; Participate in periodic and annual stock taking exercise; Implement market survey report for award of contract based on lowest evaluated bidder and price comparison analysis; Supervise and mentor sectional staff for improved performance and x. Ensure the Bureau s business application systems are used for all procurement processes. i. Bachelor s Degree in Supply Chain Management or Social Sciences or its equivalent from a recognised institution or in a related field;

Duties and Responsibilities i. Manage the planning, administrative and budgetary functions of the library and registry services; Provide effective access to library collections and resources and records; Maintain the organisation of library materials and files in the registry; Provide library services in response to the information needs of library users;

Prepare and implement library and registry work plans; Secure classified information; v Review and Implement records management policies and v Receive and dispatch mails within specified deadlines. i. Coordinate staff welfare and benefits, e.g., medical benefits, car loans administration, health and safety issues etc; Coordinate new employees induction programme to foster positive attitude towards organizational objectives; Maintain and update employees personal data; Maintain and update staff establishment records on quarterly basis; v. Coordinate and maintain records for KLB programmes on youth, gender and persons with disabilities; v v Manage all matters related to statutory requirements for staff members; Administer staff retirement benefits and liaise with service providers to ensure retiring staff needs are adequately met and Handle staff compensation claims, e.g., work place injury, group personal accident and group life assurance. i. Bachelor s Degree in Social Sciences or its equivalent from a recognised institution; Member of Institute of Human Resource Management in good standing; Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience; Knowledge of labour laws.
