2 Pg 2 WHY DESIGN? A decade ago, branding was only used as a tool to enhance the external perceptions of an organization. It was tied to the subject of communications, fundraising and marketing departments. Today, the role of a brand has become a strategic role to an organization s core performance. In addition, it plays a conceptual role in the purpose, methods and its values. A strong brand is critical to building operational capacity, maintaining focus on the mission and exhilarating support. It incorporates a strategy to the use of graphic design elements, photography, typography and messaging. However, it s important to understand that a brand is not a logo. It expresses the beliefs of an organization. Who you are, what you do and WHY you do it, are the driving force to a memorable brand. Understanding how to leverage these methods requires an understanding of how Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs applies to the market, as well as psychological needs of the user. The task in design strategy, is to synthesize and navigate through this information in order to create a harmonious connection to the brand. While this may sound like fun, dissecting information from research, authors, editors, publishers, data, and market studies is a tremendous amount of work. It takes monumental improvement for us to change how we live our lives. Design is the way we access that improvement. These help craft messages that evoke certain experiences/feelings for the customer s target market. IN 30 SECONDS, WHAT DO YOU WANT VISITORS TO LEARN FROM YOUR?
