It is part of the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - providing emergency help to people in short-term crisis within the UK and overseas. This is a role within the Trust and Statutory (TS) team within the High Value Giving & Events department, which also comprises the major donors, events and corporate fundraising teams. The TS team is targeted to raise 7.4m in 2014 and is one of the largest of its kind in the sector. Scope The post holder will lead on the management and development of relationships with a range of major Charitable Trusts and / or Statutory donors to both UK and International work. The post holder will manage the work of Officers and / or Trainees and any others at the discretion of line management. Dedicated and close working with specific service personnel and close working with the Restricted Fundraising Coordinator are also pre-requisites of the role. Overall purpose of the post To manage a portfolio of significant relationships with Trust and / or Statutory bodies, making regular solicitations exceeding 100,000 and securing at least 350,000/annum. Leading by example and developing assigned post holders skills so that the group makes a significant contribution to the estimated team target of 7.4 million in 2014. lead role with specified UK and International colleagues, advising on fundraising strategy and generating fundraising work to the team. Main duties and responsibilities 1) To develop and manage a portfolio of high value relationships with major Trust and / or Statutory funders that provide substantial financial support for the British Red Cross work, both in the UK and overseas 2) To lead on the development of large and complex funding proposals to major funders involving liaison with senior managers, both internally and externally, as well as the drafting of high quality targeted applications to meet funders requirements for project outcomes, budgets and monitoring/reporting procedures. 3) To provide stewardship of funds secured, managing large and complex grants, developing and implementing necessary strategies with service personnel to ensure sustainability of relationships with funders 4) To develop and progress multi-year fundraising strategies for major Trusts and / or statutory bodies / programmes & areas of work with the aim of maximising the net return to the Society. 5) To line manage the work of Trusts/Statutory Officer/s and / or Trainees, plus any that may be assigned to them at the discretion of the Head of Trusts / Statutory 6) To work closely and pro-actively with specified service and finance colleagues in the International/UK Divisions to identify new projects and to ensure a continuos flow of fundraising projects coming forward. To work with and support managers within International / UK Divisions to build budgets. To support the development of their understanding of how to develop plans that are attractive to external funders 7) To augment the postholder s understanding of the British Red Cross work in their designated specialism, which may be a combination of geographic area/ service priorities/ specific groups of funders, through a self-managed programme of learning. 8) To lead discussions at Director level concerning the funding options for new services/ programmes and to provide advice and guidance during the Planning and Budgeting cycle. 9) To provide a point of contact for other fundraising colleagues within fundraising on the service area which the post holder works most closely with to ensure information on projects is shared effectively 10) To work closely with other fundraising teams especially the major donor and corporate teams to maximise gift potential to the BRCS. 11) To undertake detailed research activities into existing and potential new major funders and to seek out opportunities to network externally in order to maximise our knowledge of potential funders and to increase their understanding of the British Red Cross work. 12) To be aware of new trends in the marketplace with the aim of anticipating new Trusts/statutory fundraising opportunities before they are widely publicised. 13) To keep the Trusts Manager appraised of progress and to alert them to new opportunities within the designated portfolio of funders. Also to liaise with Territory Fundraising Managers as appropriate. 14) To ensure the fundraising database is accessed and updated as per agreed guidelines. 15) To uphold the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and to work within the British Red Cross Equal Opportunities Policy and to demonstrate the competencies and behaviours set out in the British Red Cross Management Development Framework. 16) To provide mentoring support to Officers, Trainees and volunteers within the team. 17) To represent the organisation within the fundraising profession as a whole, e.g. Institute of Fundraising. 18) To undertake any other duties as requested by line management Revised 12-2013 by Helen Pott 3
Person Specification Education/ training > Educated to degree level or equivalent** > Extensive experience of raising significant funds ( 100k+) from high end Charitable Trusts and / or donors such as the EU, DfID, DoH, Home Office, Big Lottery Fund, Comic Relief & consistently achieving fundraising targets** > Demonstrable experience of monitoring large complex grants from funders such as high end Charitable Trusts and / or the EU, DfID, DoH, Home Office, Big Lottery Fund, Comic Relief** Experience > Demonstrable experience of working effectively with a range of service delivery colleagues to translate plans into funding proposals / facilitate the development of detailed business plans for projects / programmes** > Demonstrable experience in developing fundraising strategies for a portfolio of Trust and / or statutory bodies and / or specific programmes / areas of work** > Experience of line managing staff preferred. > Ability to assess, comprehend and manage complex written and financial information quickly and accurately > Ability to carry out research into giving patterns of trusts/statutory bodies in order to develop funding strategies to maximise income Knowledge/ technical skill > Demonstrable understanding/appreciation of donor care / development techniques in the field of Trust and / or statutory fundraising > Computer literate including use of fundraising databases > An understanding and appreciation of the legislation affecting charity fundraising Revised 12-2013 by Helen Pott 4
