Job description To support the implementation of the International Office s strategy to strengthen and expand the institutional profile in the marketing of Aston s programmes and in the recruitment of non-uk international students, both undergraduate and postgraduate. Responsibilities Working within designated target markets as agreed with the Director of International Development & Recruitment and the Head of International Recruitment; to be agreed upon appointment and will be dependent on the International Office s strategy and on the expertise of the person appointed Duties will involve developing, implementing and evaluating the agreed marketing and recruitment programme to time and to budget to ensure that Aston meets its international student recruitment targets. Such duties will include: a. Assisting in the development and maintenance of country qualifications to support the University s admissions staff in assessing international qualifications and advising on progression to the University s programmes. b. Representing the University at Higher Education Exhibitions and Fairs throughout the world. The post holder will often be the sole or leading representative of Aston with the responsibility of influencing prospective students (both undergraduate and postgraduate), parents and advisers. c. Working with the University s network of educational agents. This will involve: i. appointment of agents. ii. staff training and briefing (to ensure their up-to-date knowledge of UK education, of Aston, the programmes and the admissions procedures). iii. conducting student interviews in their offices overseas iv. monitoring and evaluating their performance and the service they provide to the University and to prospective students. d. Visiting institutions overseas to promote UK study and Aston University. This will involve meeting with senior management, school/college advisers and running presentation seminars to staff, parents and students. e. Providing customer service by following up on student enquiries including providing counselling and advice on the University s programmes and application procedures and liaising with University academic and administrative staff when appropriate.. This will usually be via email and may require some significant email correspondence. f. Developing and maintaining links with governmental bodies in the designated markets as appropriate, in order to keep them updated with Aston s successes and programmes as well as seeking opportunities for the University e.g. local government scholarship schemes. g. Producing reports relating to the exhibitions attended, detailing market updates, contacts and opportunities for Aston as well as communicating this to the International Office team and the wider University community to ensure that any follow up points are actioned promptly. h. Liaising with staff in the academic schools to support the School s marketing activities and to keep them informed of developments in the International Office and market opportunities. i. Developing and maintaining links with alumni in the designated markets as appropriate, under the guidance of the Alumni Office, as well as hosting alumni events in-country. The post will require extensive travel overseas and some travel within the UK and will include working weekends, evenings and may include the traditional holiday periods, such as Easter and August. The post holder may be away from the University for several weeks at a time. The post holder must also understand the importance of building and maintaining effective networks within the University at the same time. Working in collaboration with the Academic Schools and departments on the development of strategies and policies for international activities, particularly with regard to overseas student recruitment;

Undertaking market research as and when required to explore new market opportunities for Aston University in order to define strategies for designated markets and the appropriate level of activity. Developing and fostering contacts and relationships with relevant governmental agencies and bodies, embassies and consulates, educational agents, the British Council staff, academic schools, colleges and universities. Working with the staff within the International Office and the Marketing department as part of a team on developing, updating and producing marketing literature and promotional materials for the overseas markets as and when required. This may include the updating of the exhibition stands/banners, the International Office web pages and any market specific promotional materials (e.g. in-country advertising and language profiles) as well as any new initiatives. Working with the staff within the International Office and the Marketing department as part of a team on developing, updating and producing content for relevant Social Media channels. Supporting the University s international partnership activities in the relevant countries, as directed and supporting the Academic Schools in establishing links with appropriate overseas institutions. To represent the International Office at academic schools meetings and cross-university committees as required. Salary & benefits This post is offered on a continuing basis. The appointment is Grade 8 and the salary range for this grade is 31,342-37,394 per annum. Holiday entitlement Pension Contribution pay Relocation 30 days per annum, in addition to 13 days public and university holidays.
