Zhambyl region Zhambyl region is placed on south part of the Republic of Kazakhstan, year of formation 1939.

2 Zhambyl region Zhambyl region is placed on south part of the Republic of Kazakhstan, year of formation Region borders with Karagandy region northwards, with Republic of Kyrgyzstan and South-Kazakhstan region southwards and with Almaty region eastwards. Region is placed on 144,3 thousands square km. Geographically territory is generally plain, significant part of the region is occupied by Betpak-dala desert and Moiynkum sands. South-western, southern and south-eastern skirts are surrounded by mountains Karatau, Kyrgyz and Shu-Ily Alatau.

5 Business and entrepreneurship development Business Advisory Council and Coordination Advisory Council under Governors office are coordinating issues of business development in region; Branches of Atameken Union and Fund for entrepreneurship development DAMU are presented in Taraz; 9239 legal bodies (8534 (92,4%) - small, 614 (6,6%) - medium-sized, 91 (1%) large enterprises), 1652 branches and representative offices are registered; Financial sector represented by branches of 17 commercial banks, insurance companies, retirement savings funds, microcredit organizations.

6 Socio-economic development the region 7 districts are rural areas where agricultural sector is prevailing, the rest 3 districts are industry oriented. Industrial enterprises are mainly located in Taraz city. Gross regional product in year 2009 achieved amount of 360 bln tenge. In year 2009 region produced: Industrial products to the amount of 112,9 bln tenge, share of processing industry 76,4%; Gross product of agricultural sector - to the amount of 84,4 bln tenge, including plant industry products - to the amount of 47,5 bln tenge, cattle breeding products - to the amount of 36,9 bln tenge. Equity investments composed 217,3 bln tenge and increased in comparison with previous year by 1,7 times; share of foreign investments approx. 80% 239,6 thousands sq. m. of housing is commissioned, that by 4,7 times more than in year 2008, 75% of housing built at the expense of developers

7 Mineral resources of the region Region is a unique source of phosphorites and fluorspar ore Subsoil is rich with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, barytes, coals, facing materials, ornamental and technical rocks, constructional materials

8 Mineral resources of the region Region localizes 71,9% of phosphorite, 68% of fluorspar, 65,1% of quartzite, 8,8% of gold, 3% of copper and 0,7% of uranium reserves of the Republic of Kazakhstan. There is 2 quartzite minefields Zhanatasskoe (volume of reserves 38,8 mln tons) and Makbelskoe (volume of reserves 137 mln tons). Titano-magnetite mine Tymlay is discovered in Korday district. Within Shu-Sarysu basin several gas fields are explored. Amangeldinskoe gas field is in commercial operation since average daily production is 1051,8 thousans of cu.m. of conventional (natural) gas and 79,6 tons of gas condensate. Prospective minefields of lead-zinc mineral ore are detected in Shu- Ili area. Industrial interest constitutes deposits of salt in Sarysu district fodder and technical salt reserves amounts up to 10 mln tons.

9 Water resources of the region Region ranks 3rd place in the country by the number of known reserves of groundwater 40 fields with approved operational reserves of 4520,94 cu.m. per diem. 2 fields of mineral therapeutic water are explored within the region: Merkenskoe with approved operational reserves of 518 cu.m. per diem and Uzynbulak-Arasan; more than 10 emersions and groundwater areas with chemical composition similar to mineral water are established. Total average annual flow of region rivers, estimated at 4,2 bln cu.m., is formed in Shu, Talas, Asa river basins. Length of Shu river with fidders within Republic is 800 km, Talas river 453 km, Assa river 253 km. Large free-saline lakes: Balkhash (western part), Bilykol, Akkol, Ulken Kamkaly. Brine lakes: Akzhar, Ashykol.

Development of light industry, construction materials manufacturing, and new sectors of food-processing and chemical industries. Utilization of region capabilities as an international commerce hub through development of alternative power industry, transportation and logistic, adaptation of innovative technologies.
