7 Replant Policy for Seed Corn and Beans 0% Free Replant Policy featuring free PowerShield seed treatment and Burrus Xtra (Poncho 500) on Hughes, Power Plus and Burrus brands of seed corn You will benefit from free PowerShield seed treatment or Burrus Xtra (Poncho 500) on replant from Burrus. It s a unique offer that means extra value when growing Burrus Hybrids. If you must replant seed corn in 2013 originally treated with PowerShield seed treatment from Burrus, the replant seed will be furnished with PowerShield seed treatment at no additional charge, if the appropriate product is available. (Any applicable technology fees will be charged if a higher trait is used for replanting.) For consecutive seasons, Burrus has provided our 0% free replant policy. This value is appreciated by corn growers as this insurance guarantees you a growing start when you plant Burrus. 0% Free Replant on Power Plus, Hughes and Hoblit treated soybeans, too! If a grower purchases 0% of his soybeans with PowerShield seed treatment, he automatically qualifies for free replant including treatment and technology fees. Growers must contact a Burrus/Hughes company representative to verify replant needs. Replant must be used in the same planting season.

8 Seed Size Nomenclature Updated numbering system for 2013 The Burrus numbering system indicates the maturity with the first digit. Multiply the first digit by two then add 0 for the maturity day rating. The example Power Plus 4A30AM1 * brand, multiply the first digit by 2 = then add 0. This depicts the maturity range as - day. The second letter and last two digits are at random except for the Optimum AcreMax Brands Maturity Traits F4AMX * 113 Optimum AcreMax Xtra 4B32AMX-R * Optimum AcreMax Xtra U15AM-R * 114 Optimum AcreMax 4A30AM1 * Optimum AcreMax 1 4M31AMRW-R * Optimum AcreMax RW 2 GTV 4 Agrisure Viptera 3111 K24Q * 112 Quad 4P12Q * /5 Optimum TRIsect J3GT3 112 Quad, Agrisure 3000GT, glyphosate tolerant 4V43 S * Stacked F1 R * 113 Roundup Ready 2450GT 0 Glyphosate tolerant 541L 1 LibertyLink F0 * 113 Conventional non GM 125 GCL 4 Agrisure stack Agrisure Viptera Agrisure Artesian

14 Should I Replant My Corn? Replanting Yield Projections Percentage of maximum yield expected from planting on different dates and at different rates. PLANT POPULATION PER ACRE Line A* 1 14,500 1,000 1,500 22,000 24,500 Line B* 1 12,500 15,000 1,500 20,000 22,500 Line C* 1,500 13,000 15,500 1,000 20,500 Planting Date % of maximum yield expected April April April April May May May June *1 Extrapolated figures from University of Illinois data This yield projection chart is a variation of a chart originally released from the University of Illinois. It more accurately estimates yield potential of the hybrids of today, as it relates to planting date and population. Use this chart when considering when to start planting, if you should replant when less than ideal stands are established and when it s too late to plant corn. Since the data in Line A was generated from hybrids with determinate ear styles, use it when considering stands for hybrids with population requirements from Group A as indicated in our Planting Rate Guide in this book. Use line B for hybrids requiring populations from Group B which are also included in our Planting Rate Guide. Use Line C for hybrids requiring populations from Group C. 14

15 2,000 2,500 32,000 34,500 3,000 25,000 2,500 30,000 32,500 35,000 23,000 25,500 2,000 30,500 33, How to use this table: 1. Enter the line that most closely represents the date your field was first planted. Read across the column until you are on the line closest to the actual plant population remaining. Example: if you planted 4A30AM1 * or 330GT3 on April and 14,500 plants per acre remain, expect yield of approximately 0% of full yield potential. (Use Line A) 2. Enter the line representing date closest to replanting. Read opposite your population goal. Example: May 1 planting, 32,000 plant population, 1% of potential yield for 4A30AM1 *. 3. Calculate net yield by subtracting present yield potential from yield potential if replanted. 4. Determine if any yield advantage can be gained by replanting. Also, subtract the added cost of replanting (labor, fuel, chemicals) and consider potential risks involved with replanting of a field. Keep in mind with Burrus/Power Plus /Hoblit/Hughes 0% Free Replant Agreement, you will have no additional seed cost. 15

16 Calculate Yields How to figure number of bushels per acre. Harvest field length rows. Weigh the grain harvested, moisture test, then divide the total pounds harvested by the appropriate weight per bushel to convert it to number 2 corn using the moisture conversion chart. This gives you number 2 bushels harvested. Next, measure the row length harvested (in chains, ), multiply it by the number of rows harvested. Then divide it by the factor (in chains) in the table below for your appropriate row width. This determines acreage harvested. To obtain bushels per acre, divide the number 2 bushels by the acreage harvested. 1 Factor to figure acreage 1/00 acre Row width in chains 34 feet inches 15" 52 2 feet 2 inches 20" 3 23 feet inches 22" 30 1 feet inches 2" 23 1 feet 5 inches 30" feet inches 3" feet inches 3" feet 1 inch 40" 1 How to determine number of plants per acre Measure 1/00 of an acre (see chart above) in several locations across a field. Count the plants, average, then multiply by 00. Measuring harvest loss Ear Corn Every large ear (. lbs.) per 1/0 acre equals about one bushel loss per acre. Every 4 (.5 lbs.) ears per 1/0 acre equals about 3 bushels loss per acre. Shelled Corn Two kernels per square foot equal one bushel loss per acre. Be sure to make several counts, then average.

23 QR codes on E-Z Load boxes For 2013 planting, we used QR codes on all of our E-Z Load corn boxes. These will provide a useful tool for the grower during the busy time of planting season. Each code will be designed with all the pertinent details a grower will need to know about that particular hybrid. QR codes are the black and white puzzle like squares you are starting to see in many forms of advertising. QR stands for quick response. These small black and white squares are used to take a piece of information from a transitory media and put it into your smartphone. Other phones allow for an easy download of a scanning app like Optiscan. This QR code takes you to our website for all updated information. 54 Soybeans Acres to Plant Accurate stand counts are necessary to make soybean replant decisions. Other contributing factors include yield potential of the existing stand, planting date and the cost of replanting. Many times replanting decisions are based on a quick survey that underestimates the actual stand count. The population charts show the two methods used to calculate stand counts. One chart shows the plants per foot in different row widths, while the other utilizes a square yard or various diameter circles for calculating stand counts. To estimate stand densities, take at least ten random counts across the field to arrive at an average. Do not restrict the counts to the best or the worst appearing areas. The hula hoop method can be used to rapidly count plants, especially in narrow rows. Throw or roll the hoop and allow it to fall at random, and then count the number of plants inside the circle. Use the charts to help with soybean replant decisions. 56 Maximize Soybean Yields Select the variety best suited to your region, soil type, and row spacing Choose a variety with good disease and SCN resistance Utilize seed treatment Plant at recommended seeding rates Plant early (last of April to early May) Manage weeds early Scout for insects and disease, treat if warranted Maintain good fertility levels 32 LibertyLink soybeans LibertyLink soybeans are definitely gaining traction in the marketplace. At Burrus, we offer three varieties for 2013 planting. The two varieties are designed to tackle different soil types. We offer the Hoblit 32LL which is a 3. maturity soybean. We also offer the Hoblit 342LL and 423LL, 3.1 and 4.2 maturity respectively. These two maturity ranges should work in many areas of our marketplace where weed resistant issues are now becoming commonplace. LibertyLink soybeans with Liberty herbicide enable growers to effectively avoid or manage weed resistance as the only nonselective alternative to glyphosate tolerant systems. Liberty herbicide with the LibertyLink trait offers several advantages over glyphostae tolerant systems. Advantages are: Kills weeds in days vs. weeks. Nonselective, post-emergence control of broadleaf and grass weeds, including weeds resistant to glyphosate and multiple herbicide classes. If environmental conditions don t allow a residual to be activated, LibertyLink and Liberty herbicide offer the most reliable solution for weed resistance management. The only nonselective alternative to glyphosate for over the top use. Preserve the utility of glyphosate-tolerant technology with the rotation of chemical families. Growers who are considering implementation of a Liberty /LibertyLink program in their operation might best be suited by having their own sprayer. Timeliness of application is the key to a Liberty program. The LibertyLink program is considered a great management practice for growers to help avoid

57 weed resistance. Growers should strongly consider a pre-emergence program and focus on timely applications when weeds are no more than 4" tall. The standard use rate of Liberty is 22 oz. per acre. In areas with heavy weed pressure such as Roundup resistant waterhemp, 2 oz. of Ignite is recommended. Liberty offers a unique mode of action. Liberty controls weeds that have developed resistance to glyphosate and/or other herbicide classes, including waterhemp, ragweed, and marestail. Liberty can be tank mixed with most other crop protection products for very quick weed kill. Using the Liberty herbicide as part of your management plan for corn is a great option too. Liberty is a contact killer. This means thorough coverage of weeds is crucial for success. Flat fan tips at 40-0 PSI with gallons of water per acre are recommended. This means thorough spray coverage with medium sized droplets (300 microns) is crucial for success. Also 3 lbs. of AMS (ammonium sulfate) per acre are required. To aid burndown and residual activity, Atrazine can be added to the tank mix. Before spraying non-roundup corn with Liberty, be sure to thoroughly clean the spray tank, hoses, and nozzles if the sprayer previously contained any glyphosate products. The cleaning process should include washing down tank side walls with a commercial tank cleaner and triple rinsing. Remember, it takes only a few parts per million of glyphosate to significantly injure non-roundup Ready corn or non-roundup Ready soybeans. Pay special attention to: Sprayer surfaces or components where build-up might occur because of repeated coats of spray followed by drying. Irregular surfaces in the tank caused by baffles, plumbing fixtures, agitation hardware, etc. Top side of the spray tank and around baffles. Sprayer sumps and pumps. Weed control and herbicide management will always play a part in the economic success of any operation. Good luck in your efforts to control those troublesome weeds on your farm. The LibertyLink system provides a useful tool in that ongoing fight. 33
