2 Introduction u SOCCCD s district and college research offices wanted to improve the inquiry of student data with better visualization. u Chose Tableau u Got Tableau Desktop and Server u For Research Offices and worked with IT u Needed to coordinate our learning (all levels) & produce dashboards u Find efficiencies and effective practices

5 SOCCCD Tableau Journey Things we discussed in the process of developing our dashboards. I. What is the purpose and who is the audience? II. III. What visualization design/practices did you think about for the dashboard? (Font, color, charts, etc.) What were things that challenged you the most in building the dashboard? (calculated fields, alias, action filters, data, etc.?) How is your Data Source constructed? (Tableau Server) u u What data is selected? How much time is spent recreating/editing data sets? How much time is spent on cleansing the data? How is the performance of your dashboard? u u Experimented with a tool called Power Tools by Interworks for performance review Need to think about on-going maintenance of the dashboard
