LEED project website: PART 2 -PRODUCTS 2.1 NOT USED. PART 3 -EXECUTION 3.1 GENERAL A. The project is intended to achieve LEED Certification at the Silver Level per the U.S. Green Building Council LEED for Schools 2007 rating system. 3.2 RESPONSIBILITIES A. Contractor 1. Contractor shall have a staff member assigned to the project who has a complete understanding of the LEED submission requirements and LEED rating system. a. Contractor is responsible for the work of their respective subcontractors related to this work. 2. Perform all work and provide materials in compliance with the Specifications as related to LEED credit and prerequisite requirements. 3. Provide to the LEED project manager all documentation required for the certification process related to the Contractor s scope of work. All data must be provided in a format and with all information required by the LEED rating system & HVAC LEED REQUIREMENTS
2 4. Attend construction meetings dedicated to LEED compliance monitoring. 5. Meet deadline and intermediate deadlines for data information submission as requested by the LEED project manager. B. LEED Project Manager 1. Coordinate the assembling of construction and design phase data for submission to the USGBC. 2. Facilitate construction phase LEED meetings. 3.3 LEED CREDITS AND PREREQUISITES A. The following is a list of LEED prerequisites and credits that may affect the construction process and materials. The list is not all-inclusive of all LEED credits and prerequisites being pursued by this project. The list provides a cursory summary of construction process compliance requirements. The list is provided to assist the Contractor with LEED compliance and is not intended to be all-inclusive of all LEED specification requirements. Specification requirements not listed below and indicated elsewhere in the specification sections of this Division or in the Project Manual must be complied with. 1. Prerequisite EA-1: Fundamental Commissioning. Comply with Commissioning Plan. 2. Credit EA-3: Enhanced Commissioning. Comply with Commissioning Plan. 3. Credit EA 4: Enhanced refrigerant management. Provide compliant refrigerants. 4. Credit EA 5: Measurement and Verification. Provide controls, equipment, and sequences to comply. 5. Credits MR 2.1 and MR 2.2: Construction Waste Management. Comply with waste management plan. 6. Credit EQ 3.1: Construction IAQ Management Plan during Construction: Submit IAQ management plan for the construction phase. Submit required documentation to demonstrate compliance. 7. Credit EQ 3.2: Construction IAQ Management Plan: Before Occupancy: Provide testing as specified in this section. 8. Credits EQ 4.1 and EQ 4.2: Low Emitting Materials: Provide paint, sealants, and adhesives to comply with requirements. 3.4 TESTING FOR INDOOR AIR QUALITY (IAQ) A. General: This specification provides requirements for the Baseline IAQ Testing for maximum indoor pollutant contaminants for acceptance of the facility. The HVAC contractor shall retain the services of a testing agency to perform the testing specified herein. B. Referenced Standards: Testing protocols shall be consistent with the U.S. EPA Compendium of Methods for the Determination of Air Pollutants in Indoor Air and per & HVAC LEED REQUIREMENTS
3 the USGBC LEED 2009 Reference Guide. C. Submittals: Submit bound testing report per this specification section and per Division 1 requirements. 1. Test reports shall show the results of the testing, including the dates/times of the tests, location of tests, and results (contaminant levels). Include a list of HVAC system deficiencies observed during the testing, if any. D. Sequencing: 1. Testing shall be performed after air and water balancing is complete. 2. Testing shall be performed after all interior finishes are installed, including but not limited to millwork, carpet, paint, doors, wall coverings, and acoustic tiles. 3. Testing shall be performed after commissioning is complete related to the HVAC and control systems. Commissioning shall verify proper operation of equipment, drain pan operation, filter installation and shall eliminate any obvious sources of contamination. 4. Testing shall be performed prior to building occupancy. 5. Testing shall be performed prior to the installation non-fixed furnishings such as systems furniture and/or moveable furniture. 6. During testing, construction activities in the area of testing shall be held to a minimum. E. Scheduling: The testing shall be incorporated into the master project schedule. Indicate critical path items. Coordinate with the lead contractor. F. Coordination: The air balancer, BAS installer, General contractor and HVAC contractor shall assist the Testing Agency by setting the HVAC systems to the proper operating modes, installing clean filters prior to testing, and coordinating other construction activities in the area which may affect the tests. G. Testing Agency: Testing agency shall have minimum 5 years experience in the types of testing specified herein. Testing Agency s credentials and resume shall be submitted for approval prior to start of testing. 1. The following agency is pre-approved for this work: EA Group, 7118 Industrial Park Blvd., Mentor, Ohio 44060, phone number: , contact person: Ms. Amy Cseh. H. Pre-Testing Conference: Contractor shall convene a conference to discuss testing procedures and coordination at least one week prior to start of testing. I. Test plan: Testing Agency shall submit a test plan for review prior to Pre-Testing conference. Test plan shall specify procedures, times, instrumentation, and sampling methods that will be employed. J. Testing shall be performed in the following locations at Woodsfield K-8 School: & HVAC LEED REQUIREMENTS
4 1. Classroom A Classroom A Dining/Cafeteria Gymnasium Receptionist A117 K. Testing shall be performed in the following locations at Monroe High School: 1. Classroom A Classroom A Dining/Commons A Gymnasium A Receptionist A131 L. IAQ Testing Requirements 1. Sample and record outdoor levels of CO2, CO, and airborne mold and mildew. 2. The outdoor air testing shall be performed simultaneously with the indoor testing to establish a basis of comparison. 3. Indoor testing and sampling shall be performed in the breathing zone between three feet and six feet above the floor, and over a 4-hour period. 4. HVAC systems shall be operating in the normal occupied mode of operation. 5. The following contaminants shall be tested and the allowable limits are as listed: Contaminant Carbon Monoxide (CO) Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Airborne mold and mildew Formaldehyde Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) Total particulates (PM10) Limit 9 ppm and no greater than 2 ppm above outdoor levels 700 ppm above outdoor level Shall not exceed outdoor levels 27 parts per billion 500 micrograms per cubic meter 50 micrograms per cubic meter of particulates with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to a & HVAC LEED REQUIREMENTS
5 nominal 10 micrometers (PM10) 4-Phenylcyclohexene 6.5 micrograms per cubic meter (4-PCH) M. If contaminants in any area exceed the allowable limits, the area shall be ventilated with maximum outdoor air until the contaminant levels drop below the allowable limits. The areas shall be retested and the reports resubmitted END OF SECTION & HVAC LEED REQUIREMENTS
