4 WardTopdek Matford Land Rover The new motor dealership, Matford Land Rover, is on the Matford Business Park development in Exeter, which is home to the largest concentration of motor dealerships in Western Europe. The Helston Garages Group operates some of the most prestigious dealerships on the site - including BMW, Ferrari, Lotus, Maserati Porsche as well as Land Rover. Saving up to 50% The single fix on-site installation of Topdek is extremely rapid saving up to 50% against traditional built-up assemblies. As Robert Moore, Associate at Lilly Lewarne Practice explained: Ward Topdek was the ideal choice for a gently curved roof with an interesting planform. It certainly enabled us to achieve the desired aesthetics, together with the ability to incorporate concealed gutters and to secure excellent air tightness results in compliance with the latest L2 Building Regulations. Overall, Topdek was an integral and complementary part of the whole building design. Excellent airtightness results He added: As well as requiring larger contemporary premises, Land Rover needed a much stronger presence at Matford Park. The new high profile building allows the showroom to present a strong visible presence along the adjoining major road. We created an arrowhead planform that has permitted maximum glazing to the main showroom area that, together with the oversailing roof design, has significantly reduced solar heat build up and glare in turn ensuring that the indoor environment remains comfortable even on the brightest of days. The roof shape has also mitigated against shop-front reflections so that the internal vehicle displays are clear and prominent within the showroom to passers-by, both during the day and after dark. 7 WardTopdek Big Yellow Solution New lease of life Ward Insulated Panels and MITIE Roofing have devised a complex over-roofing solution to provide a new lease of life for Big Yellow Self Storage at their London Bow location. This was due largely to the versatility of Ward Topdek composite membrane roofdeck panels and Ward Single Skin Wall Profiles combined with a Ward Capella lightweight galvanised truss system. The original roof comprised Asbestos cement roof sheets with north light glazing, coupled with concrete flat roof areas, at differing levels. The existing structure was exposed where necessary to provide an interface for the installation of the over-roofing system. Ward Topdek pre-insulated membrane roof panel was fixed over the lightweight steel framework to create a pitched over-roofing solution with a subtle one degree roof pitch. Cost effective & time efficient Gary Slawson of roofing contractors, MITIE Roofing, said: The innovative roofing solution designed by Ward and MITIE was cost effective, time efficient and fitted the client s requirements exactly. The finished effect has extended the life of the building and dramatically improved its appearance. The finishing touch for this project was provided by Ward single skin wall cladding in Big Yellow s signature bright yellow. The cladding was fixed over the existing brickwork to provide an eye-catching finish to this refurbishment project. 8 WardTopdek Seams effective Ward Topdek insulated membrane roof deck panels with a standing seam effect have been used to create a striking lead-effect roofing finish for the newly constructed Ibis Hotel in Botchergate, central Carlisle. The Hotel s pitched roof was clad with the lead-grey coloured Topdek. The aesthetic standing seam was the key to successfully achieve planning permission for the town-centre project. This effect is usually found on traditional lead or aluminium roofs, but on this occasion Ward Topdek provided a cost effective alternative to create the same aesthetic result. Proven high performance Ward Topdek is a factory pre-engineered composite roof panel that facilitates faster on-site assembly. It comprises a proven high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane integrally bonded with a Firesafe rigid PIR core and a steel trapezoidal profile inner deck for structural strength. This system features no through fixings and can be curved to radii greater than 70 metres. The roofing contractor on the Ibis Hotel project was Helix Roofing (Single Ply) Limited, based in Liverpool. David O Dowd, Managing Director of Helix, said: We chose Ward Topdek because we knew how quickly it could be installed. In fact, we estimate that we saved at least seven days in putting the product down, when compared to traditional roofing methods. 11 WardTopdek Saves seven days A project for the construction of a new Tesco supermarket at Glanford Park, in Scunthorpe, has incorporated Ward s innovative new insulated membrane roof panels over the main roof area. The construction project was undertaken through main contractor Taylor Woodrow, who specified 9000 square metres of Ward Topdek insulated roof panel system which was fixed to Ward s unique profile Multibeam purlin sections - all supplied as part of the multi-phase construction programme. Ward s ability to meet very tight deadlines and deliver high quality engineered products in volume was instrumental in its selection. Ward Topdek is manufactured in the UK as a one-piece factory pre-engineered panel and comprises a high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane combined with a rigid core and a steel trapezoidal deck. The installation, therefore, was an extremely rapid single-fix on site. Ward Topdek is supplied with all the required accessories including upstands, gutters and safety attachment systems. Eddie Hilditch, Contracts Director at Cobsen Davies Roofing, who installed the roof, commented: We were delighted with the quality of the product and the speed of installation. 12 WardTopdek Top Flight Performance Topdek insulated membrane roof deck panels from Ward Insulated Panels was the product of choice for architects Bradford and Robertson on a new curved roof project at Glasgow Prestwick International Airport. A total of 14,000 m 2 of Ward Topdek was chosen for the project to create a new maintenance facility for Goodrich, part of the US aerospace giant, All new buildings at the Park must comply with an overall development masterplan. Ward Topdek was specified due to a combination of its aesthetic and insulation properties. Quite Remarkable Ward Topdek is a factory pre-engineered composite roof panel that facilitates considerably faster on-site installation compared to traditional multi part single ply roofing assemblies. It comprises a proven high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane integrally bonded with a Firesafe rigid PIR core and a trapezoidal profiled steel inner deck for structural strength. This system features no through fixings for superior insulating properties. A unique self-coring screw is utilised with Topdek which permits faster, single process fixing, saving valuable installation time. Approved Ward Topdek contractor, Thomas Devon, completed the installation. David Devon, Director at Thomas Devon, said: We were delighted to use Ward Topdek for this project. The speed at which we were able to install the roof was quite remarkable and provided the project with cover very quickly indeed. The roof took only five weeks in total to install, thanks to the all in one Topdek solution. The client was very impressed with the results. 14 WardTopdek Steams Ahead Ward Topdek pre insulated single ply roofdeck panels, incorporating dome rooflights, have been installed on a new flat roof at the York National Railway Museum. The project used 80mm thick Ward Topdek composite roofdeck panels for the academy building at the National Railway Museum based on Leeman Road, York. Project architects Richard Goodwill specified Ward Topdek due to its high performance specification and quick installation time. The factory pre-engineered composite roof panels incorporate an integral steel support deck, fire-rated insulation core and a high quality single ply PVC membrane offering considerably faster on-site installation compared to traditional multi-part single ply roofing. A unique self-coring fixing screw is utilised with Topdek, further saving valuable installation time. Reducing Labour and Expenditure Approved Ward Topdek contractors Everlast Waterproofing Ltd installed the roof incorporating dome rooflights, supplied by Coxdome Ltd, to complete the flat roof of the Yorkshire Rail Academy building. Mike Hunter, Business Manager at Everlast Waterproofing Ltd said: The use of Ward Topdek meant the roof installation only took half the time to complete, compared to built up systems. Topdek is also extremely cost effective reducing labour and expenditure normally required when using site assembled single ply systems.
