19 Japanese Cedar longhorned Beetle Japanese Cedar Longhorned Beetle, Callidiellum rufipenne, has been found and identification confirmed in Maryland for the first time. It was found on Cryptomeria japonica Yoshino planted in the Severn area of Anne Arundel County. It was detected due to dieback of leaders and branches of the infested plant material. Fully developed adult beetles were found in tunnels in the infested plants.

23 Hosts: Within its natural range in Asia, the small Japanese cedar longhorned beetle infests a number of plants in the family Cupressaceae. These include Hinoki cypress, Sawara cypress, Japanese cedar, Cypress, and false arborvitae. Firs and pines have also been reported as hosts. Infestations in North America have been found in arborvitae and eastern red cedar.
