2 Overview Established in 1992 as a consulting and engineering company. Since June 1999 BEKON has been concentrating on the development of concepts for biogas plants based on source segregated biowaste and MSW fines. The Munich Waste Services (AWM) plant (2003) is the first reference project. The technology has undergone further developments and nearly 30 patents have also been granted. Since then 29 further plants in Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, China, Mexico and the United States have been in operation or in the design or construction phase.
