5 Breakthrough in Sustainability Science The Artificial Leaf Solar Energy 2H 2 O O 2 + 2H 2 Professor Bertil Andersson 2H 2 + CO 2 (CH 2 O) Fuel like ethanol A world-renowned plant biochemist, he is also recognised as a pioneer in research related to artificial leaves and their creation. In research on sustainable energy, this is a critical area of investigation as scientists race to create an artificial leaf that can be used as an inexpensive source of solar energy.
