3 DP CleanTech has over 80 biomass power plant references around the world using High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) technology which was pioneered and developed in Denmark. DP CleanTech technology was behind the first straw biomass power plant in Denmark and we also built the first straw biomass plant in China. 6 DP CleanTech s History Has Shaped Biomass Power 1990 THE WORLD S FIRST STRAW-FIRED POWER PLANT The first successful straw-fired power plant in the world was designed, installed and commissioned by Bioener in 1990 in Rudkøbing, Denmark. The 2.3 MW CHP plant was extremely successful, and is still running very well today. DP CleanTech acquired Bioener and the related technology in CHINA S FIRST BIOMASS POWER PLANT DP CleanTech completed and successfully commissioned China s first biomass power plant in Shanxian province. The 30 MWe wood-fired power plant is owned by National Bio Energy (NBE). DP CleanTech has further optimized the plant to run on multiple fuels, and it is one of the best examples of a mixed fuel biomass power plant in China DP CLEANTECH FOUNDED DP CleanTech was founded as the engineering and construction arm of Dragon Power, which was the first company to license, develop and apply Danish biomass technology to generate renewable electricity and heat in China. Dragon Power also founded National Bio Energy (NBE), a plant owner and operator, which is also partly owned by the China national grid (State Grid Corporation of China). BEST STRAW-FIRED TECHNOLOGY IN THE WORLD DP CleanTech acquired Bioener, the Danish company that designed and built the first successful straw-fired power plant in the world using the High Pressure High Temperature Technology which is still considered as the market leader for reliability and efficiency. Since 2009, DP CleanTech has made ongoing improvements to the technology and adapted it for new markets, new fuels and new regulatory and customer requirements.
7 2010 AN INDEPENDENT COMPANY DP CleanTech became an independent global company concentrating solely on the design, engineering, manufacturing, commissioning and servicing of biomass and waste-to-energy power plants MANAGEMENT BUYOUT A management buyout led by the CEO was successfully concluded. MANUFACTURING, ENGINEERING AND SALES EXPANSION DP CleanTech expanded its manufacturing capacity with a 2,500 m2 workshop in Poland. The facility works alongside specialized suppliers throughout Europe and Asia in supplying boilers and components for some of the most advanced high efficiency biomass and waste-to-energy in the world. DP CleanTech opened its sales office in Bangkok, Thailand FLUE GAS CLEANING AND FURTHER GLOBAL EXPANSION DP established a specialist Flue Gas Cleaning division, located in the UK. Representative and Project DP offices were opened in India and the Philippines. NEW MARKETS AND SOLUTIONS DP secured important contracts in new markets and industries. A boiler island solution contract in Singapore, the first-of-type 2nd generation ethanol (lignin) power plant in China; a turnkey solution in Thailand; an EPC waste-to energy contract in Ethiopia are all significant achievements in furthering the geographic and market expansion for DP solutions.

COMMISSIONING OTHER CAPABILITIES AND SOLUTIONS Our specialized approach to commission biomass and waste-to-energy power plants ensures a flawless integration process between a plant being fully installed and being fully operational. Includes plant testing, preparing documentation, training operating staff and making appropriate changes for automation. Retrofit, Upgrade and Conversion To date, we have completed over 80 power plants and have a wealth of knowledge with which to modify existing plants for improved efficiency. We replace or add new technologies to existing plants to maintain the highest possible efficiencies. We can convert plants from fossil fuels to biomass fuels in order to extend the plant life time or utilise new waste resources. Flue Gas Cleaning Our Flue Gas Cleaning specialists work with new and existing projects to design and integrate advanced emissions control technologies that meet increasingly stringent global emissions standards. Troubleshooting and Service Our considerable experience is used to systematically assess, identify and eliminate malfunctions in the installation or boiler island components. Regular service overhauls are essential to maintain the performance of the plant and reduce the long term operational risk, and our service expertise extends beyond our own product range. 10 Our Customer References and Expertise CUSTOMERS NATIONAL BIOENERGY (NBE) Background NBE was founded in 2005 for the sole purpose of owning and operating biomass power plants in China and helping China meet its renewable energy objectives. NBE partnered with DP CleanTech and the China State National Grid to establish China s first biomass power plant in 2006, since then they have grown rapidly to become one of largest biomass power generators in the world. Requirement DP has entered an exclusive partnership agreement with NBE to develop all their power plants. NBE requires reliable, affordable and standardized technology and project delivery so they may boost profits and maintain their market leading position in China. DP solution DP has developed a standardized and cost-optimised solution, designed specifically for the China market. The technical solution is adapted for high moisture and ash content common in Chinese agricultural residues. Emissions control options are designed to meet the stringent NOx requirements in China of 300mg/m3. To date, DP has provided NBE almost 50 of such plants in China, with a total installed capacity of over 1356MW. VATTENFALL Background Vattenfall is a Swedish owned power company and one of Europe s largest generators of electricity and heat. In 2006, they were seeking a cost effective way to way to simultaneously diversify their energy portfolio and improve their environmental credentials. Requirement Vattenfall needed a flexible and fully automated state-of-the art straw-fired plant to utilize local agricultural waste at one of the company s large coal-fired facilities in Fynsvaerket, Denmark. DP solution DP Cleantech designed a 35 MWe 85MW, fully automated thermal straw-fired plant which is one of the most advanced in the world s most advanced, It was provisioned to allow co-firing with wood chips, pellets and granulated fuels to preclude fuel supply disruptions. Since commissioning in 2009, the plant has been running at full load, requiring only 2 operators. It is one of the fastest regulating plants in Vattenfall s portfolio. In 2012, Vattenfall recommissioned the plant to co-fire both wood chips and straw, and the work to do this was flawlessly executed. CHINA EVERBRIGHT INTERNATIONAL Background China Everbright International is a Hong Kong Stock Exchange listed enterprise,and part of the Everbright Group. Everbright International s business portfolio includes environmental protection and new energy businesses, and the company has made significant investments in China s growing renewables industry. Requirements In 2009, Everbright International identified Anhui province as the best location for its first biomass project. Anhui has significant waste resources (local cotton straw and forestry residues) and strong feed-in-tariffs. However, as Everbright had limited knowledge and experience of biomass, DP CleanTech was contracted to design and deliver the optimum solution. DP Solution In September 2011, a 130t/h customized mixed fuel boiler was put into operation, using proven European HPHT technology. The 30MWe plant was designed to consume 200,000 tons of waste per year, which generates 2*10kWh of clean electricity annually. The success of this plant led to the signing of a further 4 contracts with DPCT to provide custom solutions for similar projects in Shandong and Anhui.
11 COMPLEX FUELS AND WASTE TO ENERGY MAHACHAI, THAILAND Background Mahachai Green Power Co., Ltd. is a Thai joint venture between EnBW Erneuerbare und Konventionelle Erzeugung AG (a German utility) and TPC Power Holding Co., Ltd. (owned by Thai Polycons), with minority shareholders NC Coconut Co., Ltd. as the biomass fuel supplier and Green Power Producer Group Co., Ltd. as the project developer. The project is located in Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand. Requirements An innovative solution was needed to efficiently turn all the waste residues from a coconut processing plant into clean energy. This required the ability to handle all the herbaceous and woody biomass from a complex tropical fuel, for which there was no pre-existing solution. The project was on an EPC turnkey basis. DP Solution DP is delivering a state-of-the-art 9.5MWe high pressure, high temperature plant on an EPC basis including all electro-mechanical systems and ancillary plant. It will run on coconut waste residues, (husk, shell, fronds and leaves). The boiler is designed to operate at high steam parameters (92 bar and 540 C), producing 9.5MWe of electricity. The plant should achieve an efficiency net heat rate of KJ/KWH, 27% with a design fuel at 44%, whilst ensuring emissions are lower than the regulatory standards. The design ensures long term efficiency and performance, and allows the plant to operate at full capacity for more than 7,900 hours per year. EEP, ETHIOPIA Background As part of the Climate-Resilient Green Economy Strategy being pursued by the Ethiopian government, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is pioneering the development of waste-to-energy facilities through it first project in Addis Ababa. For the last 45 years, the 37ha Reppie site has been an open landfill dumping area. When completed, the adjacent modern facility will be a covered 7ha area, reducing the environmental hazards associated with open landfills. Requirements The solution needed to be able to process over 1,000ton of unsegregated municipal waste daily and enable a production capacity of 185 GWh electricity per year. DP solution DP s design of the advanced 50MW (2 x 25MW) waste-to-energy plant has drawn on DP s fuel handling, analysis and combustion expertise to develop a state-of-the-art solution that transforms unsegregated, low calorific value fuel to clean energy. It will be the first base load power in the country providing electricity 24 hours a day for over 330 days of the year. DP s all-dry flue gas treatment technology is also being used to meet the strict EU-standard emission limits required by the Ethiopian government.
12 NEW SOLUTIONS From being the acknowledged pioneers and world experts in straw firing, DP has continued to expand its knowledge and experience of new, complex or low calorific value fuels. Our recent breakthroughs in combustion techniques and our specially modified solutions have enabled new fuels to be considered for biomass plants. DP successfully signed with Shougang Holding Tianguan Group to deliver a breakthrough project in China using the by-product (lignin) from 2nd generation ethanol production. Similarly, our solutions for complex tropical fuels are gaining traction through projects such as Mahachai in Thailand. By increasing the range of biomass resources available to create clean energy, we are moving towards our stated vision of being a world leading renewables company. RETROFITS AND MODIFICATIONS. Improving the performance and flexibility of existing plants is a core DP competence, and our technology and expert diagnostic processes provide straightforward solutions for retrofits and modifications. In addition, our flue gas cleaning can be incorporated into most existing technology. AXIS, LITHUANIA Background Axis Industries is an EPC supplier and the largest group in Lithuania dealing with industrial and energy sector projects. Axis industries was contracted by Šiauliu Energija to convert an existing fossil fuel plant to run on wood chips and supply the local town of Siauliai with clean renewable heat and electricity. Requirements Axis Industries were tasked with delivering an extension and exchange on a turnkey basis to Šiauliu Energija. However with little prior experience of biomass thermal plants, Axis Industries contracted DP CleanTech to deliver the complete boiler island including specialized fuel feeding and combustion systems. DP Solution DP CleanTech delivered a wood-fired 9.8MWe net CHP plant which now supplies electricity to approximately 30,000 households. The plant also produces 37 MW of district heating (including condensing economizer) which covers 45 % of the city s heating requirements. DP CleanTech has also implemented measures to recover heat from the flue gas condensation, enabling plant efficiencies of 101%. BOFA Background BOFA (Bornholm Waste handling a county owned organization) owns a waste- to-energy plant on Bornholm Island, Denmark. Its purpose is to combust the island s local household and industrial waste to supply district heating to the island community. The total amount of waste generated by the island is approximately 26,500 tons per year and will increase by 1-2% per year. BOFA s existing waste-to-energy plant consumes about 20,000 ton of municipal solid waste and industrial waste annually. Requirements BOFA wished to improve the plant performance to operate at higher efficiency and increased capacity, with less downtime needed for cleaning of the heating surfaces. The poor condition of the plant meant that it was experiencing increasingly costly downtime due to weekly manual cleaning practices. DP Solution DP CleanTech s winning proposal was the most cost effective technical solution to increase capacity and efficiency. It was a re-design of the boiler island to a 2 pass system, with modifications and improvements to the boiler design. It also included the installation of a new feeding system and heat surfaces; air-preheater, water-cooled wear zones and a wet drag conveyor system. The improved efficiency and availability means the capacity of the plant will increase to 26,000 tons of waste per year.
