2 The Geneva Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP) Directed by the UN-ECE and implemented by the European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme EMEP Started in 1979 and entered into force 1983, since then signed by 51 parties from the US to Eastern Europe Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other parties expressed interest on ratification Extended by Aarhus Protocol on Persistent Organic Pollutants (1998) Gothenburg Protocol on NO x, SO 2, PM and VOC (1999) Aarhus Protocol on Heavy Metals (1998) 2
