Solar Heating in industrial applications ADEME SHIP conference 15/09/2015 Nadine Berthomieu Service Réseaux et énergies renouvelables
About ADEME French Environmental and Energy Management Agency ADEME is a public agency under the joint authority of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy and the Ministry of Education and Research. Staff : ~1000 employees (400 engineers) Missions: encouraging and animating the sector, providing expertise and advice facilitating and undertaking operations of private & public entities with the aim of protecting the environment and managing energy
ADEME Renewable Energies actions Head Offices Regional Agencies Agriculture and Forest Bioressources Waste management Renewable and heat transport (SRER) Forestry Wood energy and biofuels Biogaz Others Renewables Pays de Loire Aquitaine PACA Policy Orientations, R&D Solar energy Projects incitatives, analysis and follow ups
ADEME various actions ADEME main Solar Projects funds: Le Fonds Chaleur R&D Pre industrialisation Industrial Structuration Faisability studies and Projects deployment Studies / Observatories Fonds chaleur : funds for renewable heat generation, distribution (district heating) and recovery Average annual budget : ~260 M /year in between period Targets : mature technologies Industrial Solar Heating process eligible Means : regional approaches / national Call for tenders Solar installations since 2009 : 1514 / m2 of panels Funds Granted : budget share per technology
ADEME industrial Solar Heating references 17 industrial installations subsidised, k 3 installations > 100m2, 1 solar project of 1440m2 Agro industry sector Car Washing (1) Pharmacy / chemisty (1, Melvita)
Fonds Chaleur specific hydraulic schemes rule* : Simple hydraulic schemes with a solid return on experience from professionals - i.e. Immerged or external solar heat exchanger / seperated boiler or backup tank heater (direct or indirect), potable water loop after solar tank. If several tanks, series configurations When necessary only (liogonnella directives) - Immerged boiler avoided for regulation maters and solar energy metering *
Adapted to the the Industrial sector Initiated last Febrary 2015 with a new edition in coming April 2016, this tender aims at helping the realisation of large solar installations with higher competitivity - Targeted sectors : industry, tertiary buildings, health centers, solar heating districts - Condition of eligibilty : solar collectors surface > 300m2 Call for Tender «Large Solar Installations AAPST»* : Subsidies : range from 45 to 65% of the investment and from 50 % to 60% of the studies Main advantage for the project s leader : 1. Specific hydraulic schemes will be analysed 2. Subsidy isn t based on a fix rate help but an effective business model is discussed with ADEME central and regional entities 3. Innovative business models like refundable grants can be proposed (New) *
Another funding possibilty : NTE* - Initiated since A Call for tender twice per year : for new technologies not yet on the market or not repertoried in the Fonds Chaleur. - Objective : enabling the emergence of technologies or pilot projects for newly commercialised products or quite specific hydraulic schemes according to its performances and monitoring results, the technology can expect to be taken into consideration for Fonds Chaleur grants *
Waste Heat recovery grants* and project s prerequisite «Fonds Chaleur» grants are now availale for waste energy recovery* Eligible perimeter : energy transport, heat exchanger and heat valorisation unit Targeted technologies : - Tower heat recovery - High temperature heat pumps - Jet compressor etc ADEME prerequisites to any solar project : - A detailed study encompassing the entire industrial energetic process - A very detailed approach of hot water / vapor consumptions * _fatale.pdf
Installations in Languedoc : running smoothly Car washing : -37% of solar fraction measured -6 years payback time grants included funds out of a 20k investment Glass factory cleaning : 74m2 of panels, Bourdouil -50% of solar fraction measured for the cleaning and sanitary needs process -33k funds out of a 70k investment -
Cavet Picodon, cheese factory : 90m2 solar water and heating system An example of coming realisation : Rhône Alpes - Expected solar production : 60 MWh, 30% of the actual factory needs - Allocated grant : 50k out of a 110k investment -
Cooky factory (Nutrition et Santé), Revel : 94m2 of solar panels Solar process Expected solar production : 58MWh, 620kWh/m2 Allocated grant for the solar system : 30k out of 70k investment Other processes : heat recovery out of tower exhausts and chilling process Heat recovery process
Milk factory (Bonilait), Poitoux Charente : 1470m2 solar collectors Solar circuit on a Heating process battery implemented before an existing desiccation wheel Heat discharge if necessary in various other processes : pasterization -
