Framed by the Cradle to Cradle design concept, product cycles are viewed as closed entities right from their very beginning the idea being that they should not produce any waste whatsoever.

3 Framed by the Cradle to Cradle design concept, product cycles are viewed as closed entities right from their very beginning the idea being that they should not produce any waste whatsoever. This principle is grounded in nature where waste is not actually waste at all, but instead provides a form of nutrition as part of a never-ending natural cycle. If we apply this to manufacturing, this means taking an approach to designs that enables materials to be managed in a biological or technical cycle, and not only working to fulfil the original purpose of a product, but also thinking about the options available for recycling its raw materials as early as in the development phase.

Cradle to Cradle is based on categorising materials into a biological cycle and a technical cycle, the resources required for creating products are taken from the two cycles and, once each has been used, it is fed back into its respective cycle. This focused method of materials flow management also has an impact on how components are selected in the building and architecture sectors. In the future, the intention is to do more than just mitigate the effects that buildings have on the world around them by making them actually beneficial for the environment. In this new product, combining two Cradle to Cradle elements, we are seeing how powerful combinations can be created contributing to the sustainable building agenda. It means that designing a sustainable building is an ambitious task requiring a comprehensive approach that takes into account the role of every single component right down to the entrance mats. emco has risen to this challenge and, with its new emco ECOLINE PIONEER entrance mat, is making a significant contribution to building quality BASIC Cradle to Cradle Basic certification requires every material to be identified. Replacement strategies have to be developed for materials that are toxicologically or eco toxicologically unacceptable. A plan is created for recovering the product and recycling it, and energy consumption and the renewable energy proportion are defined during production. Cradle to Cradle Certified is a certification status that is granted by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.

DESSO provides the inserts for emco ECOLINE PIONEER with its unique Cradle to Cradle EcoBase backing and AirMaster filtering function that helps to clear the indoor air. Since 2008, Desso has been committed to developing Cradle to Cradle products that have a positive impact on people s health and wellbeing and on the environment. Desso has achieved Cradle to Cradle Silver Certification for its carpet tiles, with a newly designed backing called DESSO EcoBase specifically designed with disassembly and recycling in mind. Due to its innovative composition, the polyolefin based layer of the EcoBase backing is 100% safely recyclable. Through Cradle to Cradle, Desso s innovation teams have also focused even more on developing products that contribute to health and wellbeing. It is very malleable and can be produced with different degrees of hardness. Its density, appearance, scratch resistance and adhesive strength can also be modified to suit the requirements of the application concerned. The material can be rec cled easily. Wire cable & screws The wire cables and screws used are made from stainless steel ( (V4A) acc. to EN ), which offers excellent resistance to corrosion. It is easy to weld, very malleable, and extremely strong. Demand for stainless steel is steadily increasing, as CO 2 emissions can be reduced significantly by recycling this material.

Brass is an alloy of the metals copper and zinc, and is of course recyclable. DESSO AirMaster insert The ribbed carpet insert consists of polyamide fibres. Thanks to the versatility that polyamide (PA6) offers, it can be used in a number of fields. Its properties are impressive; it produces light, fine fibres, is exceptionally durable and resistant to abrasion, is easy to clean and dries quickly. Polyamide fibres are also guaranteed to retain their shape.

15 DESSO EcoBase insert backing material The backing material for the insert bears the name EcoBase TM, which is a Desso brand name. The innovative polyolefin based backing, contains only positively defined 1) materials which are safe for human use and are specially designed with disassembly and recycling in mind at the end of their useful lives. Fine dust can enter the respiratory system through the mouth and nose, while larger particles can be removed by coughing, sneezing and swallowing; the smaller ones can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause lung and heart problems. DESSO AirMaster technology has been specifically designed to trap and hold particles that pose a risk to health.

Thanks to the product s ribbed and open structure, DESSO AirMaster patented technology allows emco ECOLINE PIONEER to remove a significant amount of fine dust from the air. This feature is especially effective in entrance areas where air curtain systems or open doors continually disperse air, including the finedust.
