3 Inventory Basics Pollutants to Inventory CAPs O3, NO2, CO, SO2, PM10, PM2.5, Pb Ozone Precursors VOC and NOx PM Precursors NOx, SO2, and NH3 HAPs often obtainable from VOC or PM speciation profiles GHGs CO2, CH4, N2O, HCFCs, PCFCs, SF6

4 Particulate Matter PM10-Filterable (PM10-FIL) PM2.5-Filterable (PM2.5-FIL) PM-Condensable (PM-CON) PM10-Primary (PM10-PRI) = PM10-FIL + PM-CON PM2.5-Primary (PM2.5-PRI) = PM2.5-FIL + PM-CON Should always report on at least 4 PMx pollutants (FILs & PRIs)

6 Release Types Stack Emissions Fugitive Emissions Accidental Releases typically included with normal operation emissions under same process

7 Stack Parameters & Controls Ensure stack height, flow rate and exit velocity are reasonable and jive with each other Capture efficiency Control efficiency

8 Process Throughput Data A process is defined by a Standard Classification Code (SCC) Throughput is matched with standard emission factors Ensure throughput units match the SCC units Provide monthly throughputs and operating schedule to enable DAQ to estimate summer day emissions for VOCs and NOx

9 Emission Estimation Methods Use the best available data: Continuous emission monitor (CEM) data Representative stack test data Site/company/industry specific emission factors Material balance Standard EPA AP-42 emission factors in SLEIS (MC 28)

10 Emission Estimation Methods MC 28 emissions calculated by SLEIS Ensure units of activity data match the emission factors Controls, if any, will be automatically applied Using MC 28 ensures consistency with PMx values

11 Inventory Pitfalls Mixing MCs when calculating PMx emissions Incompatible units Missing pollutants For combustion sources should have all CAPs/precursors and usually some HAPs SLEIS unfortunately does not populate pollutants in a process that exist in the MC 28 EF table for a given SCC

23 New Release Point Set the ID in sequential order of 1 nomenclature New Stack Latitude and Longitude will be needed Understand your different types of stack information Fugitive Stack Determine the temperature, height and diameter of the stack Enter Flow rate or stack velocity
