1 Industry-focused Education, Networking & Advocacy Coal has been on a roll in 2014 as U.S. demand and consumption increased to meet higher energy requirements over the course of a harsh winter. With coal-fueled generation fulfilling baseload electric demand and also largely responsible for meeting incremental electricity needs during this time, America s most abundant fuel resource demonstrated its continued relevance and reliability. What are the domestic coal market implications from the early increased demand and the need for stockpile rebuilding? How will natural gas demand, supply, storage replenishment and infrastructure issues impact coal markets? What is the perspective around international coal demand and U.S. market participation? How can electric grid reliability be maintained as CSAPR, MATS, CO 2 and other environmental regulations loom? What new technologies hold promise for reducing carbon and other emissions? How might the 2014 mid-term elections affect the course of coal policy and regulation? Speakers Industry Executives ~ presenting a strategic industry perspective on marketplace and public policy considerations Energy Industry Consultants ~ providing a comprehensive perspective on marketplace and public policy factors impacting coal suppliers and consumers Government Representatives ~ presenting updates and outlooks on energy and environmental policy initiatives Coal Industry Representatives ~ who share experience-based perspectives on energy, environment and business management topics Attendees The Conference is designed for coal industry executives with senior management responsibility for strategic planning, environmental management, utility and industrial fuel planning/procurement, marketing and sales, transportation, energy trading and financial management, market research and analysis, contract administration, and business development. An avid and innovative champion of fossil fuels, he has defended their economic and environmental benefits in debates against Greenpeace, 350.org, and the Sierra Club. Alex s writings and views on fossil fuels have been covered and published in hundreds of publications, ranging from the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and the New York Times to Rolling Stone. He engages with many constituencies on the economic and environmental benefits of fossil fuels, including university students, having spoken at Stanford, Duke, Rice, UCLA and others. In the conclusion of American Coal Council s recent comments to EPA on its proposed carbon rule for new fossil plants, we posed a question to those who frame climate change action on the basis of a moral imperative. Our question was Where is the moral imperative to provide reliable, affordable energy and good jobs in America? Alex, a philosopher by training and the author of Fossil Fuels Improve the Planet, will address key energy policy questions and advocacy strategies as well as preview his soon-to-be released book in this Keynote Address.
