4 The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) was established by law No. 3 of 2009, issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. QCC is responsible for the development of Abu Dhabi Emirate s Quality Infrastructure, which enables industry and regulators to ensure that products, systems and personnel can be tested and certified to UAE and International Standards. Products certified by QCC receive the Abu Dhabi Trustmark. The Trustmark is designed to communicate that a product or system conforms to various safety and performance standards that are set by Abu Dhabi regulators. 1- Foreword The QCC Working Group for Plastic pipes was established in June 2013 with a view to reviewing the available standards for plastic pipes with all standardization levels (International level, Regional level, National level as well as local level). Recommending the use of particular standards for plastic pipes that satisfy Abu Dhabi local requirements and the requirements of stakeholders. 2 - Scope This Abu Dhabi Specification recommends the use of particular standards for plastic pipes. 6 The QCC policy is to encourage the use of UAE national standards published by ESMA (the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology). Since there is no UAE standard covering buried polyethylene pipes for the supply of gaseous fuels, it is proposed that the ISO 4437 with all parts standard will be an effective reference to overcome the absence of a national standard for buried polyethylene pipes for gaseous fuels in the UAE. 4.2 Document Review Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels - Polyethylene (PE) Part 1: General This part of ISO 4437 covers the general aspects of the plastics piping system. including the general properties of polyethylene (PE) compounds for the manufacture of pipes and fittings intended to be used for the supply of gaseous fuels.it also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this International Standard In conjunction with ISO , ISO , ISO , and ISO , it is applicable to PE pipes, fittings and valves, their joints, and joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be used under the conditions specified in the scope of this standard Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels - Polyethylene (PE) Part 2: Pipes This part of ISO 4437 specifies the characteristics of pipes made from polyethylene (PE) for piping systems in the field of the supply of gaseous fuels. It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this International Standard. In conjunction with part of ISO , ISO , ISO , and ISO , it is applicable to PE pipes, fittings and valves, their joints, and joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be used under the conditions specified in the scope of this standard Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels Polyethylene (PE) Part 3: Fittings This part of ISO 4437 specifies the characteristics of fusion fittings made from polyethylene (PE) as well as of mechanical fittings for piping systems in the field of the 5

It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this part of ISO In conjunction with ISO , ISO , ISO , and ISO , it is applicable to PE pipes, fittings and valves, their joints, and joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be Used under the conditions specified in the scope of this standard Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels Polyethylene (PE) Part 4: Valves This part of ISO 4437 specifies the characteristics of valves made from polyethylene (PE) for piping systems in the field of the supply of gaseous fuels. It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this part of ISO In conjunction with ISO , ISO , and ISO :2014, and ISO , it is applicable to PE valves, their joints, and to joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be used under conditions specified in the scope of this standard Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels - Polyethylene (PE) Part 5: Fitness for purpose of the system This part of ISO 4437 specifies the requirements of fitness for purpose of the polyethylene (PE) piping system to be used for the supply of gaseous fuels. It specifies the definitions of electrofusion, socket fusion, butt fusion, and mechanical joints. It specifies the method of preparation of test piece joints and the tests to be carried out on these joints for assessing the fitness for purpose of the system under normal and extreme conditions. It specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this part of ISO In conjunction with ISO , ISO , ISO , and ISO , it is applicable to PE pipes, fittings, valves, their joints, and joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be used under conditions specified in the scope of this standard. 5 - Executive Summary and Recommendation 6

8 The QCC Working Group reviewed the above international standards and found that they are suitable to be used as a reference for the manufacture of plastic pipes. Due to the absence of national standards (UAE Standard) with this regard; the working group recommends that ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology) adopts ISO 4437 with all parts as a QCC WG Plastic Pipes is aware of the unique scale of investment and other unique features of Abu Dhabi which could be the subject of particular guidance. 6 - Reviewed Documents 7
