3 Who Is the CCPC? The CCPC is an association of Canadian and U.S. coal and coal-fired electricity producers, government agencies and research organizations Industry participants include: Alberta Innovates Energy and Environment Solutions Capital Power Corporation Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Nova Scotia Power Inc. Sherritt International Corporation SaskPower TransAlta Corporation The CCPC's mandate is to research technologies with the goal of developing and advancing commercially viable solutions that lower coal power plant emissions Slide 3

4 Introduction Canadian and US Government have new regulations limiting the emissions from new Fossil Fuel power plants to below 500 kg CO 2 /MWh. This equates to about 60% carbon capture. Most published work on carbon capture has focused on capturing over 90% of the carbon emitted with a limited number of processes and configurations. Limiting the level of carbon captured enables alternative technologies and process configurations to be used. Significant increase in overall plant efficiency and reduced capital cost. Slide 4
