This is not an all-inclusive list, but describes the most common team positions and each specific task. These jobs are separated into three groups: Board, Tournament, and Team. 2 Board Positions (*Executive Board Members) REGIONAL DIRECTOR* (Elected by Governing Board) Represent Region XIV at Ohio DI Governing Board meetings Voting Member of Region XIV Governing Board Enforce the Region XIV Constitution and Policies and Procedures. Member of Region XIV Executive Board. Make policy recommendations to Region XIV Governing Board Present slate of officers to the Region XIV Governing Board Schedule and preside at meetings of the Region XIV Governing Board Mediate any team disputes or protests on Make final selections for Special Recognitions on Emcee the Awards Ceremony on Make final decision on which Region XIV teams are invited to the Ohio DI State Tournament Distribute completed score sheets/folders to Board Members after Tournament Provide Appraisers and Teams for the Ohio DI State Tournament Maintain Region XIV lessons learned and history files. SECRETARY* (Elected see Constitution) Voting Member of Region XIV Governing Board Preside at meetings of the Region XIV Governing Board in absence of Regional Director Communicate the Region XIV Policies and Procedures to the Governing Board Create, store, and distribute a written and/or electronic record of each Region XIV Planning Committee meeting Member of Region XIV Executive Board. Maintain a current list of the Ohio DI Region XIV Governing Board members Maintain and store current inventory of Ohio DI Region XIV property and consumables. TREASURER* (Elected see Constitution) Voting Member of Region XIV Governing Board Member of Region XIV Executive Board Maintain accounting procedures for all financial transactions of the Governing Board and report current financial status at each Governing Board meeting Make financial recommendations to the Region XIV Governing Board Execute receipt of all Region XIV receivables and payment of all approved Region XIV invoices. 3 BOARD MEMBER (Appointed by School District or other Jurisdiction) Represent their jurisdiction at all Ohio DI Region XIV Planning Committee meetings. In the event that the member cannot attend a meeting the member will notify the Region Director and send another representative from their jurisdiction. Collectively make decisions for Ohio DI Region XIV. Establish the annual meeting calendar and the time and deadlines for competition and training. Elect Executive Committee and appoint Ohio DI Region XIV Committees/Coordinators Relay all information to managers, appraisers, and community-at-large. Serve as the liaison for their jurisdiction s school administrators, team managers, appraisers and community-at-large. Complete and submit all forms and fees to appropriate person and place by the established deadlines. These include registration with national Destination Imagination Inc, and with registration with for the Region XIV Tournament. Plan, organize and carry out an annual Regional Region XIV Tournament by actively participating in at least one committee and in one facet of the Tournament. Collectively secure Challenge Masters, Appraisers, and Building Coordinators and familiarize them with their specific Challenge or Instant Challenges problem/procedures prior to the Ohio DI Region XIV Appraisers' Training Seminar. Publicize the DI program within their jurisdiction s schools. Provide encouragement and service to local memberships and other groups interested in participating in or donating to the DI program Advise regional school districts in planning and conducting dress rehearsals, Instant Challenge Practices, and other DI - related events Serve as liaison between bodies holding memberships and DI Association of Ohio, Inc. Serve as the official body in recommending participation in the Ohio Destination ImagiNation State Tournament. Vote on revising the Region XIV Constitution and Policies and Procedures Agree and document tournament criteria (e.g. tie-breakers and handling of ties) Provide and approve web-site content. WEBMASTER (Appointed by Governing Board) Maintain the Ohio DI Region XIV web-site, including home page and all web pages required to present the content approved by the Governing Board Maintain a current license for the URL Maintain the web-site file structure, file security, and delete obsolete information Provide interesting and informative content subject to the approval of the Governing Board Provide for on-line registration of teams for Region XIV Purchase any required web services to maintain the web-site. 4 Tournament Positions TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR (Appointed by Planning Committee) Coordinate and manage the annual Regional Tournament Communicate with Challenge Masters on requirements and schedules for Schedule venues for each Main Challenge and Instant Challenge Register teams for the Regional Tournament Register appraisers for the Regional Tournament Register volunteers for the Regional Tournament Validate team, appraiser, and volunteer registrations Schedule team performance times for both Main and Instant Challenges CHALLENGE MASTER (Appointed by Planning Committee) Understand and interpret the appointed Challenge Provide specific requirements for Challenge venue(s) to the Tournament Director Train the appraiser team(s) for the Challenge Manage the Appraiser Team and their efforts on Manage team performances to the performance schedule Coordinate the setup and breakdown of each Challenge venue Resolve any team disputes or protests on Administer changes to team performance schedules on Maintain security over the assigned raw and recorded performance scores Distribute each team s raw performance score sheet on Deliver completed performance score sheets/folders to the Scorekeeper on Return all Challenge materials to collection point after clean-up Provide list of appraisers eligible for State Tournament to Regional Director RegXIVJob.doc Page 4 of 10 8/23/2005
5 APPRAISER (Provided by Teams, Assigned by Tournament Director) Understand the appointed Challenge and any Clarifications Provide unique access requirements to the Challenge Master Attend the Ohio DI Region XIV Appraisers' Training Seminar Appraise the appointed teams on Encourage all teams before, during, and after performances Provide fair critical judgment between team s performances if assigned to a scoring position Maintain strict security of raw scores on The following specific Appraiser positions are usually required for a successful tournament: o Pre-Staging Accepts team paperwork and begins team checklist o Improv Monitor monitor s Improv teams inside the work room o Announcer announces team before Main stage performance o Doorkeeper Maintains doors of venue closed during performances o Timekeeper Starts, Stops, and Monitors performance time o Scoring Appraiser Watches team Main or Instant Challenge performance and provides fair scoring of Main or Instant Challenge elements o Style Appraiser Watches team Main performance and scores specific Style elements o Number-Cruncher Transfers raw scores from score sheets to calculation sheet and performs any required scoring mathematics. SCOREKEEPER (Appointed by Planning Committee) Attend Ohio DI Score Room Training Provide Score Room requirements to the Tournament Director Obtain required calculating and printing equipment for Collect raw performance scores on Manage volunteers assigned to the Score Room on Calculate accurate total scores and places on Provide printed scores and place summaries for the Award Ceremony Secure the scores and places information against early or unauthorized access Collect Special Recognition nomination forms on and provide these to the Regional Director RegXIVJob.doc Page 5 of 10 8/23/2005

9 Team Positions TEAM MANAGER Directly organizes and leads the Team in selecting and solving the Main Challenge and in practicing Instant Challenges Reads and understands Rules of the Road, Team Manager Guide, selected Main Challenge, and applicable Clarifications Identifies team sponsoring organization and active Region XIV Board Member Selects Team Members and Assistant Team Manager Provides team information to Board Member for team registration Identifies at least one Appraiser and two volunteers Attends meetings with Board Member and transmits information from Governing Board and Planning Committee to team members and parents Schedules Team meetings (date, time, location) Arranges for team transportation where necessary Provides meeting environment, instant challenge materials, and documents Records team decisions and distributes any copies of team documents to Team Members (This may be delegated to an acting Team Recorder) Reads and understands Rules of the Road, Team Manager Guide, selected Main Challenge, and applicable Clarifications Plans, monitors and encourages team progress on Main Challenge solution Establishes team rules and maintains team focus and discipline through positive reinforcement of team rules Identifies, avoids, and limits outside interference in team s solutions Plans and monitors team completion of required paperwork Plans transportation of team and any props to the Tournament performance venues (Main Challenge and Instant Challenge) Observes team s Main Challenge and Instant Challenge performances on Receives team raw score sheet after performance Accepts or declines any invitation to attend State or Global Tournament Plans and manages any and all team fun and/or celebration. 10 TEAM MEMBER (Student) Meets with other team members to select and solve Main Challenge Completes required paperwork Creates, edits, constructs, decorates, and repairs all solution elements Listens to or reads and understands selected Main Challenge and applicable Clarifications Adheres to all team rules and challenge limits Performs Main Challenge solution on stage on Performs Instant Challenge on Politely recognizes all champions at Awards Ceremony Has fun on. TEAM TIMEKEEPER (Appointed by Team Members) Identifies time limits of Main Challenge and each Instant Challenge Tracks elapsed time for team during challenge solutions and presentations Warns team of impending time limits during performances. TEAM VOLUNTEER (Identified by Team Manager) Accepts volunteer assignment for Tournament Performs assigned two-hour service at Tournament venue Notifies Team Manager, Volunteer Coordinator or Building Coordinator if unable to serve. TEAM PARENT (or Caretaker) Encourages participation in DI Program Reinforces team rules where required Transports individual Team Members to team events and Tournament Assists Team Manager with meetings, outings, rehersals, practices, etc Assists team with transporting props on. Avoids outside interference in team s solution and performance. AUDIENCE Avoids distractions during team performances (set cell phones, pagers, etc OFF/SILENT) Enthusiastically recognizes team effort with positive feedback after each team performance Politely recognizes other team s performances and efforts Avoids outside interference in team s solution and performance.
