2 Introduction to Job Evaluation (2-day program, 2 offerings) Facilitator: Karen Reedman Dates: October 17-18, 2011 & April 9-10, 2012 Thousands of organizations including more than half of the world s largest companies rely on Hay Group s job evaluation methodology to help them bring together the right people, jobs and structures to execute their strategies. Commonly known as The Hay Group Method, our system provides clients with a consistent and objective framework to analyze organizational structures, evaluate people and jobs, define career progressions, develop pay and reward programs, and manage their human resources more effectively. This seminar is designed to teach you how to value work in your organization through both discussion and hands-on practice, learning from the expertise of a senior Hay Group Consultant and the shared experiences of Hay Group clients. Key objectives: Understand the business case for evaluating work and how it fits into the broader reward process; Analyze jobs and roles in your organization; Develop insight into the concepts underlying the Hay Method of valuing work; Practice evaluating a variety of jobs in the overall context of an organization; Be prepared to address questions about work valuing that are meaningful in your organization. This seminar is restricted to organizations that are currently using the Hay Group Guide Chart - Profile Method of Job Evaluation SM. It is designed for individuals who are accountable for valuing work in their organizations, including compensation management, organization effectiveness, and human resources development. The program is designed to teach a basic understanding of how to value work using the Hay Group Guide Charts SM and is intended for those who need to evaluate jobs and roles, and who have little or no previous experience with The Hay Group Method. An effective organization creates powerful alignment and efficiency and the wrong organization leads to disengagement, loss of focus, and wasted energy. This one-day workshop provides insights into getting organization design right starting from a high-level perspective and aligning design to the strategy, clients, environment and culture of the organization. It also requires a deep understanding of jobs, processes and organization structures and the ability to implement and manage organization design. The workshop is designed for both the management cadre and human resource professionals in the public service. 4 Writing EX Job Descriptions Facilitator: George Stonyk Dates: December 7, 2011 and March 7, 2012 A sound understanding of the roles and accountabilities is the basis for a solid classification for any position in the EX Group. In turn, this understanding is based on achieving clarity in understanding the environment, context, emerging and on-going issues and challenges associated with the work being performed. This one-day workshop provides insights into the key elements of executive level work in the public service. Participants will review the contents of the Guide to Writing Work Descriptions for the Executive Group. The workshop includes case studies on different executive level roles and provides the opportunity to discuss specific issues with respect to describing roles and accountabilities that are specific to their organizations. The workshop is designed for both the management cadre and human resource professionals in the public service. Participants will learn: To identify key elements for each of the sections of the work description; Analyze work in connection with the preparation of the work description; Key questions to ask in interviewing the incumbent or the supervisor; Linking the information presented in the work description back to the Executive Group Position Evaluation Plan; Integrating environment and context into the work description; Identifying the key result areas. Using examples derived from examples of work descriptions for positions in different functional areas, you can take away: A better understanding of the nature of executive level work; A fresh perspective on creating new and revising existing EX Group work descriptions; An understanding of what is important in the work performed for inclusion in the work descriptions.
