Skills Forecasting (The outlook for Wales ).
Skills Forecasting (The outlook for Wales ).
The Outlook for Wales What s on the up? Higher than average annual growth in output of 5.8% forecast in the five years to 2019 is responsible for the uplift in jobs, as a result of high levels of investment in infrastructure, and the industrial and commercial sectors. This means that exciting projects such as the Nuclear New Build programme Wylfa on Anglesey, The 200m Hirwaun Power station and the 850m Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Power plant, will provide employment for thousands of skilled workers across the country. But could this lead to a skills gap!
The Outlook for Wales What does this mean for construction jobs? This means that demand* for some trades will be higher than others. Jobs in demand in the next five years in Wales include: Non construction professional, technical, IT and other office-based staff 870 Wood trades and interior fit out 770 Labourers 670 Other construction and technical staff 650 Bricklayers 550 Painters and decorators *annual average recruitment forecast over the next five years
The Outlook for Wales What s the challenge? With growth returning across the country and 224,000 jobs expected to be created over the next five years, demand for construction workers is high and skills shortages are emerging. This means that need to attract, train and retain the next generation.
The Outlook for Wales What s CITB doing to bridge the gap? We re working with industry and government to improve on site environments and promote construction to a wide range of people. Watch out for our Building campaign, which will see us joining up with partners to promote construction careers.

Welsh Government Context for Community Benefits The delivery of added value through community benefits policy must be an integral consideration in procurement The Welsh public sector will apply community benefits to all public sector procurements where such benefits can be realised.
