4 Task One Describe the components of a risk management plan in a health, disability, or community setting (written or spoken answer) ER1.1 Question 1: You must describe how the components of a risk management plan relate to the situation of a person being supported. For privacy reasons you may not be able to attach a copy of the risk management plan to the assessment. Sample answer: Identify a consumer being supported for whom a risk management plan has been developed. Jarred has a goal of making a nutritious meal for himself. What is the situation (environment) for which the risk management plan was developed? The support worker has identified that a number of appliances, including the microwave, dishwasher, new sandwich maker and a toaster, were plugged into one multi-plug without a cut out switch, which was also providing electricity to the fridge. The worry for the support worker is that the electric cord of the sandwich maker trails across the bench in the very spot where water collects because sometimes dishes are left to drain there. Describe how components of the risk management plan relate to the situation of the person being supported. Some of the components which may be included in a risk management plan are: context, risk analysis, risks identified, risk evaluation, risk management strategies, communication and consultation process, and monitoring systems. Other components may exist in a risk management plan: The following are the components of the risk management plan for Jarred: Context: The environment in which Jarred will be preparing a meal for himself is unsafe. Risk analysis and identification: An analysis of the risks by the support worker shows that too many appliances are plugged into one multi-plug without a cut out switch and that the electric cord of the sandwich maker trails across the bench where water collects from draining dishes. Risk evaluation: The support worker has identified the risk as moderate and so has decided to stop the meal preparation session and she puts up a warning sign not to use the plug. She temporarily unplugs the appliances as well. Communication and consultation: The support worker discusses her concerns with Jarred then rings her supervisor to discuss the potentially dangerous situation and, on her supervisor s advice, rings an electrician to install an extra double power point in the kitchen. Monitoring and review: The support worker checks that the electrician has completed the installation, advises the supervisor that the action is complete, and removes the warning sign. Assessor s use only Notes and decision: or MER Trainee assessment Careerforce Issue 2.0 Jul V2 Demonstrate knowledge of risk management planning...
