34 PAID LEAVE GLOSSARY OF METRIC TERMS, DEFINITIONS AND CALCULATIONS Statistical Defiitios The letter i tables ad figures idicates the umber of respodets to each questio. I other words, whe it is oted that = 25, it idicates that the umber of respodets was 25. The percetile is the percetage of resposes i a group that have values less tha or equal to that particular value. For example, whe data are arraged from lowest to highest, the 25th percetile is the poit at which 75% of the data are above it ad 25% are below it. Coversely, the 75th percetile is the poit at which 25% of the data are above it ad 75% are below it. Media (50th percetile) The media is the midpoit of the set of umbers or values arraged i ascedig order. It is recommeded that the media is used as a basis for all iterpretatios of the data whe the average ad media are discrepat. Average The average is the sum of the resposes divided by the total umber of resposes. It is also kow as the mea. This measure is affected more tha the media by the occurrece of outliers (extreme values). For this reaso, the average reported may be greater tha the 75th percetile or less tha the 25th percetile.
