1 JOB DESCRIPTION: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT Full time - 12 month fixed term contract Closing date: 3 rd April 2018, 11am Salary: 22,000 for the duration of the contract. Matrix is a barristers chambers located in Gray s Inn, London and Geneva. We are a group of independent and specialist lawyers and support staff who work in a wide range of areas of law. The Role The Business Development Assistant will work with the Practice Desk, who manage the practice of barristers at Matrix, and the Marketing Team to support us in our business development across the organisation. This includes assisting in the development of our individual practice areas, our international brand, organising attendance at business development trips and conferences, and supporting members of the team in building client relationships. The role requires an interest in business development or marketing, as well as interest and relevant experience in data analysis, including experience with using Excel. The role requires basic project management skills, including organising plans, tracking progress of plans and following up on activities where required. You will also need to learn quickly, move from one activity to another, and have motivation to drive plans forward during busy periods. This role would suit a recent graduate, but this is not a requirement. Interested? What now? 2 Guidance for completing our form Your application form is the first stage of the recruitment process and it is the only basis on which we make a selection for interview. When completing the application form please address each of the skills listed in the table below. Where possible please provide examples relating to your previous experience. As a guideline, each point should be addressed in less than 250 words. Skill and/or duty /Desirable 1. Demonstrable interest in business development or marketing. 2. Ability to work in a team, collaborate and work well with others. 3. Ability to handle a diverse workload, manage your time and meet deadlines. 4. Very good organisational skills and attention to detail. 5. Ability to take initiative and drive plans forward. 6. Excellent written ability and very good verbal ability, including some experience of summarising a large amount of information. 7. Project management experience, or qualification, or demonstration of basic project management skills. 8. Good data analysis and numerical skills, including experience of Microsoft Excel. 9. Good level of IT literacy including the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products, in particular Word. 10. Commitment and understanding of Matrix core values. 11. Experience of business development in barristers chambers, a law firm or the legal sector. 12. Experience and knowledge of LEX chambers management system, other chambers system, or other client relationship management system. Desirable Desirable What you can offer us Duties: 1. Support the business development of individual practice areas and the organisation as whole, as directed by the Practice Director.
3 2. Create and track action plans for the development of practice areas, including following up with colleagues where appropriate. 3. Analyse data on business development and client relationships, and producing initial summaries for the benefit of other colleagues. 4. Engage in research for business development purposes. 5. Writing short contact reports and longer reports on trips and business development initiatives. 6. Organise meetings and, on occasion, assist with events that are related to business development projects. 7. Assist in the organisation of business development trips, particularly overseas trips. 8. Assist in the development of an enhanced client relationship management system. 9. Involvement and participation in staff activities and Matrix life. 10. Contribute to meetings of the staff team and other committees where applicable. 11. Where appropriate, participate in other working or project groups that may be formed from time-to-time to take forward operational or strategic plans. What we can offer you The post is full-time (40 hours per week.) The position is paid a salary of 22,000 for the duration of the contract. 23 days holiday per year. Matrix opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm. Your usual working hours will be 9am 6pm. You will be automatically enrolled into the Aviva group pension Scheme. You can opt out of this. Matrix participates in the Bike to Work scheme. Three months probationary period. An interest free travel loan is available on the successful completion of probationary period. Three months notice period. Development and Progression Opportunities The post-holder will be appraised on a regular basis and specific training and development opportunities will be agreed.
