Voluntary & Community Services Peaks & Dales (VCSPD) provides a wide range of important community based services that support people across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales. Our main office is in Buxton, but we have also have outreach offices in Ashbourne, Bakewell and Tameside. Our accounts department manages the payroll for all staff working with VCSPD s services, and is responsible for the invoicing to service users, statutory bodies and suppliers. Some of our services receive grant funding, which often require additional recording and monitoring. We also provide payroll services to external organisations. The organisation is growing, and our accounts department is very busy. You can find out more about the organisation by visiting our website : The Selection Process We will not normally be able to invite everyone who applies for a job for an interview. We will therefore read each application carefully, and decide whether to invite the candidate for interview, based upon the information in the main section of their application form. We separate the Personal Details and Equal Opportunities Monitoring pages from the rest of the form: the information on these pages is not seen by those deciding on who to invite for interview. The Person Specification gives detail of what skills, experience and knowledge you need to have how well you match this specification will determine whether we invite you for interview. You need to be able to demonstrate that you meet all of the essential requirements, but don t be put off if you meet only some of the desirable requirements. Our initial selection is based solely upon the information that you put on the form, so you need to make sure that you clearly demonstrate your match for each element of the specification by emphasising the relevant parts of your previous education, training, employment and elsewhere. If you have never been in paid employment or have not worked for a long time, think carefully about any experience, skills and knowledge that you may have gained, not necessarily in a formal work or education setting. This may include voluntary/community work, student placement, leisure activities or domestic obligations, for example, running a house or caring for relatives or friends. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 17 th February at our Buxton office: if we are inviting you for interview, we will let you know no later than Friday 12 th February - so if you haven t heard from us by then, we are afraid that means that your application has not been successful. 2 Making an Application Please note that we will only consider applications submitted using our own application form. To make life easier for you and for us, our application form is a "fillable" Acrobat (pdf) file. This allows you to fill in the form, to save, re-open and edit it as you wish - and then to it to us when you are ready. To fill in the form, you will first need to save the file to your computer. Then open it using Adobe Reader. While you may be able to view the form, and perhaps even to fill in the boxes, using other PDF programs or a web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari), only Adobe Reader will save your answers so that we can see them! So please do take care. It s a good idea to fill in the first couple of boxes, then save the file and re-open it to check that the data is being stored properly. 3 VOLUNTARY & COMMUNITY SERVICES - PEAKS & DALES Job Description: This Description issued: January 2016 Duration Hours Probationary Period Based at Area Covered Reporting to Permanent, subject to funding 30 hours/week 3 months VCSPD Buxton office As detailed in VCSPD governing documents Accounts Manager Purpose To assist the Accounts Manager in the recording and processing of all financial matters relating to VCSPD and its services, ensuring that the organisation complies with all legal and charitable financial reporting requirements. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Ensure accurate records are maintained using Sage accountancy software. 2. Assist the Accounts Manager with all payroll duties. 3. Assist the Accounts Manager with Pension Auto Enrolment and staff pension contributions. 4. Provide information and data as requested to HMRC. 5. Prepare sales invoices for the VCSPD services, linking with the various project/service software programmes used within VCSPD. 6. Assist in the recording and banking of all monies received. 7. Process and arrange payment of supplier invoices based on invoices received. 8. Assist the Accounts Manager in the setting up of control systems within the accounts department.

4 9. Record all Gift Aid transactions and liaise with HMRC for reimbursement. 10. Provide accountancy support to VCSPD s services and projects as required. 11. Provide accountancy support to the Peaks and Dales Advocacy Service. 12. Assist with the preparation of quarterly financial reports for the Management Board. 13. Assist the Accounts Manager, Senior Management and Treasurer with the preparation of VCSPD s annual budget. 14. Assist the Accounts Manager in the preparation of reports for the auditor. 15. Undertake any training deemed necessary to the post. 16. Assist with any other duties that may occur from time to time in order to meet the needs of the organisation. 17. 5 Person Specification: 1. Essential Qualities 1.1 Hold or be working to the AAT Level 3 Diploma in accounting 1.2 Have a working knowledge of SAGE accounting software 1.3 A Team player with good interpersonal skills. 1.4 Good numeracy and IT skills. 1.5 Good written and oral communication skills. 1.6 Good recording and monitoring skills. 1.7 Good organisational skills. 1.8 Self-motivated. Able to take responsibility, organise time efficiently and handle conflicting work pressures. 1.9 Must respect the confidentiality of client information. 2. Desirable Qualities 2.1 Driving licence and use of a car 2.2 Awareness of the statutory reporting requirements relevant to a charity. 3. Flexibility 3.1 This is a small office and therefore we require all our staff to be flexible in what they are willing to do. 3.2 We are as flexible as we can be over the timing of each staff member s hours, within the constraints imposed by the services that we provide.
