1 2018 Annual Conference Speakers & Presenters Dean Coughenour Risk Manager City of Flagstaff Arizona National PRIMA Past President Dean is the Risk Manager for the City of Flagstaff and directs their Risk Management Department, managing a comprehensive risk and safety program that includes reducing risk factors, grass root integration of the risk management decision matrix, safety, insurance, litigation management, Workers' Compensation, training, and facility inspection programs. Coughenour has nearly 30 years experience in proactive Risk Management and has served on various boards and associations including Arizona Municipal Risk Retention board, City of Scottsdale Loss Trust Fund board is a past national board member of PERI (Public Entity Risk and Insurance), past loss trust fund board chair for the City of Scottsdale, past president of the National Public Risk Management Association for the United States and has held various other community leadership positions. He is a frequent speaker on Risk Management topics both at national and local conferences. He is a champion for Risk Management and the employment of the Risk Management decision matrix in day to day operations of public sector entities. Penetrating the Cone of Silence/Communicating with Police and Fire Rob Donahue Senior Director, Commercial Leader Government Rob has been working in the Fleet Management space for over 11 years with TomTom, Networkfleet, Inthinc and Lytx. Rob is a Senior Director and the Commercial Leader for the Government practice at Lytx, a San Diego based company providing video based driver risk management that uses analytical data to help risk identify and reduce risk. With Lytx Rob has the pleasure of working with Federal, State, and Local organizations such as The City/County of Denver, City of Atlanta, Fairfax County, VA, Baltimore, MD, US Marine Corps and the US State Department. With these organizations the Lytx DriveCam solution has proven to reduce risk, protect the reputation of these organizations and their
2 employees, reduce costs and most importantly save lives. Rob also has experience as a fleet driver having spent 6 years as an EMT in the Greater Boston area. Rob will be leading the session on: Improving Safety By Changing Behavior Jack D. Griffeth Jack centers his law practice on defense trial work, representing employers in employment-related litigation and mediation. Jack serves as General Counsel to Wofford College, and Spartanburg Methodist College. As a certified circuit court mediator by the South Carolina Bar, Jack has built an extensive mediation practice over the years where he conducts civil court mediations on a wide variety of cases including torts, contracts, and employment. His mediation experience has garnered him membership to the South Carolina Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, an invitation-only organization of professional mediators and arbitrators who are well established as trusted neutrals amongst the legal community within their state of practice. In addition to mediation, Jack regularly represents private institutions of higher learning in employment, student disciplinary action, faculty cases, and contracts with vendors, entertainers, and other partners in accordance with regulatory acts including FERPA, HIPPA, and the Clery Act. Jack is also skilled in defending employers, insurance carriers, and self-insured groups in cases involving challenging employment issues, such as workplace safety, workers compensation, discrimination, sexual harassment, and unemployment compensation. Jack is considered one of South Carolina s pre-eminent attorneys by Martindale-Hubbell with an AV Distinguished Rating, and he has been named by his peers a South Carolina Super Lawyer and a Best Lawyer in America. Among his many civic leadership roles, Jack is Past President of the Greenville Bar Association, a Past President of the S.C. Bar Foundation Board of Directors, and is a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Jack is a summa cum laude graduate of Wofford College and received his Juris Doctor from Duke University. In 1976, Duke University created the Charles Murphy Award for Jack, in recognition of his unique collegial contributions to the Duke Law School community. He is also the 2008 recipient of the Greenville Bar s most prestigious honor, the Tommy Thomason Award. Jack will be a panelist on:
3 Shellie Haroski, SPHR, SHRM-SCP Senior HR Consultant Shellie is a human resource professional with over 20 years experience as an HR Manager and Consultant. Shellie s background and experience includes a wide range of HR competencies including leadership development, coaching, performance management, training, policy and procedure development, legal compliance, and human resources best practices. Her experience spans both small and large companies across many industries including manufacturing, non-profit, financial and professional services. Shellie is committed to helping companies develop initiatives to support their company mission and ensure positive cultural and employee relations. She has significant experience in partnering with clients and coaching employees at various levels to achieve professional and personal goals. Shellie was recognized as the Great Person of the Year at FGP. Prior to joining FGP, Shellie served as an HR Manager for an international company with over 50 locations throughout the United States assisting with strategic HR direction for over 1200 employees. Shellie has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in Management and Finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She obtained her SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) certification in 2011 and most recently her SHRM-SCP through The Society for Human Resource Management. Shellie will be a panelist on: Brian L. Quisenberry Brian is an attorney and a partner at the law firm YCRLAW in Charleston, South Carolina. Brian s practice includes employment law, premises liability, and cyber security. Brian represents both public and private employers in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative agencies such as the EEOC and the S.C. Human Affairs Commission. Brian advises his clients on compliance with state and federal laws and helps his clients develop strong policies and procedures. Brian is AV-rated in the Martindale peer review rankings in the area of Labor and Employment. Brian also defends his clients against premises liability claims and advises clients on cyber security issues. Brian currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the SC Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Brian will be co-leading sessions on:
4 Legal Update Overlapping Issues in Employment & Workers Compensation Law Cybersecurity Protecting Your Personal & Professional Assets Patty Reineke RN, BSN, CCM, MSCC Senior Medical Management Consultant Patty is a certified case manager with 23 years of experience directly handling workers compensation claims. Patty is responsible for working in concert with internal and external team members to employ the most effective cost containment measures to medically stabilize claims. She reviews and interprets medical data to ensure all treatment is reasonable and necessary. She also projects future medical costs based on current diagnosis and treatment and develops partnerships with external third party administrators, attorneys, employers, internal analysts and attorneys to develop a plan of action to bring cases to successful resolution. Patty evaluates Medical Set Asides (MSAs) to ensure the allocations are accurate to prepare for settlement of workers compensation claims. Patty will be a panelist on: Leslie M. Whitten Leslie is an attorney and a partner at the law firm YCRLAW in Charleston, South Carolina. She focuses her practice primarily in the area of workers compensation law, but she has recently expanded her interests to cybersecurity law as well. She has defended numerous cases involving repetitive trauma claims and mental injuries, and she has 15 years of experience representing large self-insured companies and public entities. Leslie has received the AV Preeminent Rating Judicial Edition, which is the highest possible rating an attorney may receive for both legal ability and ethical standards. She is an Ex-officio member of the Board of Directors for SCPRIMA. 5 Julie W. Waller, MBA, COHC, CWCP, MESH Strategic Risk Control Consultant Risk Control Services Ms. Waller is a Strategic Risk Control Consultant of PMA Companies. In this role, Ms. Waller is responsible for providing comprehensive risk control and safety consulting services to PMA clients. With over 20 years of combined experience in both public and private sectors, Ms. Waller utilizes her significant expertise in order to effectively assist clients in enhancing their occupational safety and health programs, and in reducing their overall cost of risk. During her career, Ms. Waller served as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy in Iceland and Spain, specializing in the Aviation field to include air operations, aircraft handling, launching and recovery of aircraft, fueling, firefighting and rescue operations. Following her military career, Ms. Waller worked in the textile industry in various manufacturing roles such as Assistant Plant Manager, Safety & Risk Manager, Production Manager, and Human Resources Director. During her tenure in manufacturing, she was responsible for the safety, health and risk management programs for five manufacturing facilities. In addition, Ms. Waller spent 10 years as a North Carolina Municipal Safety, Health & Risk Manager overseeing the following programs: property and liability, workers compensation, return to work, drug and alcohol testing, OSHA training and compliance, fitness for duty, policy development, Commercial Driver License (CDL), public transit systems, airports and water and electric utilities. Ms. Waller facilitated initiatives for safety committees and accident review boards. Ms. Waller holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health and a Masters of Business Administration in Public Administration from Columbia Southern University, where she is also currently working toward her Doctorate Degree in Business Administration. Further, Ms. Waller holds the following designations: Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC), Certified Workers Compensation Professional (CWCP), and Manager of Environmental Safety and Health Programs (MESH). She is a Defensive Driving Instructor, as well as a CPR/AED/First Aid instructor. Ms. Waller is an experienced safety trainer and a Trench & Excavation Competent Person. Ms. Waller is an accomplished public speaker and has spoken at various safety and risk management conferences, seminars, and focus groups, as well as university settings to students pursuing careers in risk management or insurance industry fields.
