Military veterans and their families struggle as a unit as veteran returns from duty a different person Multiple definitions as to what benefits and programs available to the military veteran Support agencies not prepared for the longevity of the wars and do not have the infrastructure to support those returning Difficulties with self ID and asking for help

7 Employment Landscape 1.2M jobs offered. 200,000 vets. Why does unemployment hover at 9-10%? Veterans are unfamiliar and inexperienced with resume development and the job interview process Training programs are available through various grants and entitlements, but lack of operational experience and the inability to articulate military experience is a barrier to success Tough recession/high unemployment is challenging for us all

Online training and certifications combine with on-the-job training Part of a cost saving $5M PC to VDI 3 year project Veterans (or family members if the veteran cannot work) focused Partnerships developed with federal, city, state, IT vendors and colleges 4/5 inaugural class found employment; two found jobs early

9 Guiding Principles All about the veteran: this is neither a staff augmentation, charity event nor productivity exercise Focus is on providing opportunity; no job is promised but the potential for the veteran is limitless Concentration on what veterans and their families need that are not offered by other means Solid & caring healthcare environment On the job training, shadowing, coaching Contacts with recruiters and other network opportunities EN-Able the veteran to take control of their careers and transition honor, service, teamwork, project management and character developed through their military experience

10 EN-Abled Vet Process Recruitment and onboarding. Veterans are recruited through a number of local resources, including veteran's job boards, local VA Rehabilitation Units, commercial vendors, colleges and non-profits, radio programs and word of mouth Orientation and initial training. Veterans are signed up for online training courses and achieve certification in VDI deployment Career choice and shadowing. At Rush, we have a comprehensive IT department structure that includes an electronic medical record, imaging systems, network operations, databases, web development and end-user technologies Resume development Mock job interviews
