TRAINING SCHEDULE Toxic Dump: How to Get Rid of Toxic Attitudes in Employees Business is hard enough without having to deal with toxic attitudes and the bad behaviors that go with them! In this session, participants will love learning about how to deal with this difficult issue in ways that are effective, efficient and honor the work of your company. Expectations and accountability partnered with good, solid conversations will be at the heart of the work. And, yes, we will be right up front with this subject because it can be one of the most damaging things that can happen to your company. We will get to the heart of what makes people toxic and try to help them realign with our company or leave in peace so that we can move forward for success! Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 8am-12pm Facilitator: Heather Woody Communicative Skills: Interactive Skills-Based Workshop This workshop is designed to help learners develop a deeper appreciation for dialogue as the preferred approach to addressing a wide variety of organizational problems. The workshop makes a strong distinction between dialogue and discussion. The most often complaint heard in organizations is about failures of communication. The workshop zeros in on specific features of this failure by working through four levels of listening. We all think we are better listeners than we are and the workshop exposes our weakness and what we can do about them. The workshop involves serious self-reflection about our own practices. In this session you will: Learn the fundamental importance of dialogue today for all organizations. Differentiate dialogue from discussion and learn the importance and proper application of each. Analyze your own strength and weakness in the dialogical process. Learn how to improve your dialogical skills through specific practices. Thursday, October 11, 2018, 8am-12pm Facilitator: Randy Richards, Ph.D. The class reframed concepts that I am familiar with and can now can further execute with confidence. - Angie Hoover Kirkwood Corporate Training 1
TRAINING SCHEDULE Emotional Intelligence: The Key to Your Success According to Daniel Goleman, author, psychologist, and science journalist, the key to success isn t what you are taught in school, not your IQ, technical know-how or years of experience. The single most important factor for job performance, advancement, and life in general, is emotional intelligence. The good thing is that it can be learned! Emotional Intelligence is a set of skills anyone can acquire. So why should you care about your emotional intelligence? Individuals who understand and use EQ skills: Are more successful at work Make exceptional business owners and leaders Make better life choices Have better interpersonal relationships Are better parents In addition, businesses who make EQ skill development a part of their organizational culture see greater overall productivity, increased sales, increased customer service and a reduction in turnover. In this session you will: Know what Emotional Intelligence is and how it is different from IQ. Know the importance of Emotional Intelligence when getting a job, succeeding at one and hiring Emotional Intelligent people. Understand the skills you will want to work on and create an Action Plan. Tuesday, November 6, 2018, 1-5pm Facilitator: Kelly Carman No More Wasting Time! The Keys to Useful Meetings The research backs up what many of us experience: a huge portion of the typical work week is spent in meetings, many of which are viewed as a waste of time by participants. But, productive meetings do exist and are necessary. This course is designed to give participants practical tools for shifting to a culture of useful meetings. Participants will have the opportunity to develop concrete ideas for use in their own workplaces and suggestions for additional reading will be provided. In this session you will: Learn how to determine when a meeting is the right tool to use. Learn how to set the stage for meeting success. Learn how to facilitate a smooth-running meeting and draw out valuable contributions from participants. Learn how to keep the momentum going after the meeting and ensure that needed action takes place. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, 1-5pm Facilitator: Jennifer Horn-Frasier Business Partners Training Consortium
TRAINING SCHEDULE Embracing Change and Preparing for the Future In our ever-changing world, adaptability and innovation have become a crucial competency for all who are working and an important part of emotional intelligence. The willingness to get out of one s comfort zone and adapt to changing surroundings can be the difference between moving forward or getting stuck and hoping to survive with the mindset of the way it s always been. Come and explore what you can do to keep up with the pace of change in today s workplace. In this session you will: Learn to overcome resistance to change with a positive attitude. Assess problem-solving methods for challenging issues to make change easier. Identify goals and resources that will be needed to support future infrastructure with your department or organization. Thursday, January 10, 2019, 8am-12pm Facilitator: Terry Whitson Tough Talks: How to Have Difficult Conversations in the Workplace In the workplace, we often need to talk about tough issues to move personal performance and the business forward. In these high stakes conversations, emotions can run high and affect the outcome and in some cases even cause one to avoid engaging in the conversation altogether. Skillfully navigating challenging conversations can drive positive performance and build a culture of trust and connection with team members. On the flip side, when we struggle to engage in tough topics or avoid them altogether it drives low performance and frustration for all parties. This course will equip you with the skills to effectively move into difficult conversations. Thursday, February 14, 2019, 1-5pm Facilitator: Amanda Childs I am able to take a lot of insight and perspective from this class and I am excited to incorporate what I learned to my work as I keep moving forward. - Sharon E. Donahue Kirkwood Corporate Training 3
TRAINING SCHEDULE Coach vs. Mentor: What s the Difference? Building Better Coaches and Mentors to Drive Improved Performance/Behavior It s what you learn after you know it all that counts. John Wooden Many confuse the terms mentor and coach. There is a basic difference and it comes from the degree of involvement of the leader. While both use similar skills and approaches, a mentoring relationship is typically longer-term, focused on personal growth and directed by the mentee. A coaching relationship is generally shorter-term and is designed to improve immediate performance and skills, with learning directed by the coach. Great coaches have similar traits and tendencies. This course will review these traits and tendencies and touch on strategies that can be used to develop a leader s possession of the characteristics. Examples from sports, industry, government, military, etc. will be used to provide a visual representation of the traits and tendencies. Business coaching for improved performance/behavior is a spiral discovery process, each phase requiring additional depth and learning, leading to the depth and learning of each subsequent phase. But it is a process and does not need to be chaos. It is not at all dissimilar to athletic coaching, in that basic skills are built upon with advanced skills, practice makes perfect, and during real-life action, the skills need to be honed well enough that they can be relied upon without a great deal of thought or additional study. There are many outstanding examples of great coaches across multiple industries, sectors and business sizes that we can learn from. This course will explore the coaching process, providing actionable conclusions and examples. As a part of the course, after concepts and techniques are proposed and explored, the class will be broken into pairs and asked to develop a coaching plan for each other. The pairs will develop a relationship that will extend beyond the workshop to 30, 60, and 90-day checkpoints against their plans. In this session you will: Verbalize the difference between coaches and mentors. Demonstrate the traits and techniques of great coaches. Gain experience in creating coaching plans and following through on personal development action plans. Thursday, March 14, 2019, 8am-12pm Facilitator: Todd Hutcheson Business Partners Training Consortium
TRAINING SCHEDULE Lead From the Seat You Are In Leadership is all about the influence you have and how you use it from the place you work from. Anyone can lead, it s not just for people with a title. Leaders spring from all kinds of places and if we use that influence right, we make a positive and lasting difference in our workplaces. Participants will learn about their influence, how to use it, how to lead themselves and others, and the secrets to leadership success! Wednesday, April 10, 2019, 8am-12pm Facilitator: Heather Woody K i r k w o o d Tr a i n i n g & O u t r e a c h S e r v i c e s 5
