Tasks ABB is seeking a MicroGrid Advisor who will work within EPM Advisors framework of marketing activities by providing thought leadership in energy markets through Energy Market Intelligence workshops, industry conference presentations and panel moderations, webinar series, and whitepaper publications, as well as support EPM Advisors Sales process by conducting prospective client discovery calls and business needs assessments Microgrid Advisory Consultant job brief: - Subject Matter Expert on MicroGrid Economics - Ability to provide a high level business case and return on investment - Knowledge of Distribution Systems and Engineering - Able to run a microgrid planning model for high level design such as Homer Professional Software skills As an external customer-facing consultant and an experienced and proficient practitioner working with one or a number of ABB s Solution sets, the Senior Advisory Consultant Microgrids, the overall target micorgrid studies to investors like utilities or IPPs for their investment decision. The studies need to included overall plant designs, pre-selection of components, ROI, IRR etc. The Microgrid Advisor will be responsible to generate business cases which will be used as a sales enablement tool, for internal training and for external promotion. Microgrid advisory studies shall be targeted to increase understanding on the financial returns of a microgrid project as well as the technical impact given resource volatility / availability. The Microgrid Advisory Service will consist of a full techno-economic evaluation of the microgrid (optimum configuration, return on investment, use cases). This will require collaboration with 3rd party consultants and involve a strong collaboration between product groups within ABB business units such as Microgrids and Distributed Generation and Enterprise Software. The term Microgrid in this context covers isolated as well as grid embedded / disitrbuted generation cases to impact Grid resiliency, power quality, self-consumption and lower environmental impact. Use cases could involve Mining (Sandfire/Spinning reserve); Industrial (critical manufacturing process, high power demand, high electricity tariffs & capacity charges peak shaving or recurrent outages weak grid or extreme weather); Island utilities; Ports/Harbors; 1 MicroGrid Advisor

2 Remote communities; non-governmental organizations. The Micorgrid Advisor must be able to position ABB s contribution to the economic viability, microgrid feasibility, microgrid design, PowerStore (combination of Microgrid Controls, and Battery Storage), rapid electric vehicle charging (transportation / vehicles), solar inverters, and perhaps other technologies and/or services. Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Works without supervision. Complete latitude for independent judgment. May mentor less experienced peers and display leadership as needed. Be an expert in one or more simulation model software products for microgrid use cases, such as: Homer or Promod The role may possess extraordinary expertise as a Regional Pactice Area Lead for microgrids and serve as a regional product manager for same. Professional Services Activities - Follows work plans and cost estimates in one s area of responsibility. Ensures quality and timely implementation within targeted cost. Provision of business process/ solution related consulting activities in accordance with specific consulting engagement request. Provision of solution consulting advice to effectively provide the customer with knowledge and best practice guidelines of the required business solution. Enablement of business benefits in accordance with consulting assignment deliverables. Works as a leading functional practitioner in a consulting area. Approves assignment tasks carried out by others. Takes a lead role to propose consulting services to meet the customer's needs. Leads or supports the development of a special technology or area of best practice Demonstration of ABB solutions. Prepare and conduct product training as required. Participation in complex solution design and feedback sessions with the R&D team(s). Provide expertise and guidance during the solution development process to ensure bridging of the gap between business problems faced by the client and benefits available from ABB solutions and services Ensuring that our solutions are designed and documented to address customer s problems in a cost-effective and timely manner Encourage openness & respect, and build trust, confidence & loyalty with customers and partners. Undertake mentoring and leadership of consultants and associates as required. Complete administrative tasks e.g. timesheet recording and project/site documentation as required. Willingness to undertake extensive travel both domestically and internationally to customer project locations. Attend to other relevant duties as directed. Customer Satisfaction - Ensure ABB commitments to customer are met, in accordance with the assigned consulting activities. Ensure assigned professional services are completed on time, with required quality and updates reported to appropriate project manager or equivalent. Seeks ways to improve customer satisfaction, through optimized execution, appropriate customer interaction, delivering quality documents, keeping and presenting ABB values and integrity, etc. as directed by the project manager and or Team Lead. Assure and seek to improve customer satisfaction and feedback through consistent customer interaction, e.g. Communication, (phone, , etc.) and Customer meetings, etc. Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction across all solution deployments. Consistently demonstrating a commitment to ongoing improvement of service or delivery methods. Business Development - Supports Sales in sales activities and participates in pre-sales activities when required. Contribution as requested to proposals, RFI s and tender responses. Provide input to project plans and pricing on services projects. Identify and report additional business opportunities for consulting when conducting an existing engagement e.g. training, site reviews, further solution rollouts etc. 2 MicroGrid Advisor

3 Makes contacts with senior/technical experts in customer organizations to deliver customer benefit. Maintains awareness of consulting and business unit target sectors and the needs of existing customers in order to support Sales to negotiate contracts which meet customer objectives. Innovation and Improvement - Create and deliver training materials relating to technology and best practices to support the adoption of best practices across the global consulting group Continuous contributions to innovation. Quality - Adherence to Project and ABB quality standards. Demonstrated high-quality, professional and ethical conduct. Producing high quality project reporting documentation. Ensuring on-time delivery of project deliverables, project reports, and Request for Proposals with exceptional operational and functional quality. Requirements Basic qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience OR; Masters degree with 10 years experience OR; PhD with 8 years of experience Ability to travel 25%; National and International Preferred qualifications: Post Graduate qualifications desirable. Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization. Relevant industry technical certifications desirable. Recognized as a subject matter expert/proficient practitioner in relevant field. Expert knowledge of microgrid economics, the macro economic factors influencing microgrids in world markets over a 30 year time horizon, how to use Simulation Model software products to simuate future scenarios in those markets and perform sensitivities for key contributing factors. Familiarity with ABB Reference Case product is a plus. Fluent spoken and written English and language local to country in which employed skills, including the ability and confidence to develop and present to senior audiences within a customer environment or at industry conferences. Ability to work with projects of different size, complexity and contractual types Lateral thinking and problem solving Must be self-motivated, outcome-oriented, pragmatic, commercially minded, and demonstrate a strong desire to excel, work with moderate supervision. An ability to produce documentation and collateral and to develop ABB excellence in project delivery capability and methodologies. Ability to analyze numerical data, verbal data and all other sources of information; Proven experience in the deployment of complex enterprise software solutions Proven experience in professional consulting role (desirable) and in implementation of ABB solutions or equivalent Proven industry experience in specialist area in capital-intensive industry (Mining, Utilities, Oil & Gas, Public Infrastructure) Proven extensive experience identifying and managing project issues and risks, including mitigation strategies and plans.
