1 TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES Qualification Structure Qualification Code Diploma of Community Services Coordination CHC52212 RTO 3Bridges Community Duration Training Package 20 classroom days and additional sessions as required. Where students are granted credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning for units then the duration of the qualification will be amended accordingly. All students also need to complete a minimum of 80 hours work placement. Community Services Training Package CHC08 There are 7 compulsory core units of competency and 7 elective units to be completed to obtain the qualification. Target students will be those who have already gained vocational experience but without having gained a formal qualification in community services coordination or management involved in community development, community work, community care services and volunteer programs in settings such as residential facilities, community bodies, Qualification Structure V2 CHC52212 Diploma of Community Services Coordination Page 1 of 5
2 government agencies and group homes. If successful in attaining the qualification students will be looking to undertake typical job roles such as: Entry Requirements Coordinator Service or program Team leader coordinator Coordinator, Volunteer programs Supervisor / Program or Service manager Unit manager Manager of volunteers To gain entry into CHC52212 Diploma of Community Services Coordination candidates need to have previous work experience in the community sector in a job role that involved: self-directed application of knowledge exercise of independent judgement and decision-making a range of technical and other skills front line management responsibilities. Client(s) (Learning Needs) Language, Literacy & Numeracy requirements Individual learner needs will be identified during the application process. Prospective students will be required to apply to enrol and provide details of their current level of education, any previous experience in the industry or previous education that may make them eligible for recognition of current competence or prior learning respectively. A pre-enrolment interview will then be carried out including a needs assessment of factors such as length of time since last formal study, language and/or literacy issues, social and personal constraints. Where potential language, literacy or numeracy issues are identified through the application enrolment process a LL&N assessment will be conducted to help identify support requirements. This strategy has been developed in consultation with industry including: Consultation with industry Direct liaison with employers over elective unit selection to determine which would be most relevant to the work roles that successful students could undertake; Discussion with specific industry bodies Review of draft Training and Assessment Strategies and samples of associated resources to validate them and to identify any changes required from an industry perspective. Recognition of Prior Learning and National Recognition of Qualifications The recognition of prior learning procedure will be made known to students at preenrolment. If a student can demonstrate competency and provide sufficient, current, valid and authentic evidence of work experience, life skills, study or via other evidence, then the learner will be deemed competent in that unit of competency. If a candidate has already been deemed competent by a Registered Training Organisation, in a unit through previous study, a credit transfer will be awarded for that unit. 3 Location All face to face training will be delivered in the 3Bridges training room or a similar suitably equipped venue. Work placements will be arranged by students with suitable host organisations or the student s employer if applicable, under formal agreements with 3Bridges. If necessary, 3Bridges will assist students in finding a host employer that can meet the requirements of the workplace component. Duration and Structure Each unit will be delivered in one day and timetabled to be completed within 12 months. Students, in accordance with legislation, can take up to 24 months to complete this qualification. Additional training sessions will be scheduled as required to meet leaner s needs. Students will be provided with Learner Resource Books for each unit including power point presentations, subject related texts documentation, workplace scenarios and resources normally used in the workplace. Assessments are issued separately. Training and Assessment Methods and Approaches The work placement component will be undertaken with a suitable host organisation or the student s employer if applicable and a training plan developed to allow the student to undertake specific activities under supervision of a workplace supervisor. The total duration of the work placement will be 80 hours, programmed in conjunction with the host organisation/ employer. If necessary, 3Bridges will assist students to find an appropriate host organisation to fulfil the requirements of the workplace component. The work placement can be programmed to be carried out progressively over the same time that the classroom training and assessments are being conducted or after the conclusion of the training. 3Bridges will use a combination of assessment methods and approaches which will involve collecting a range of evidence for ensuring consistency of competency. Assessment will be conducted using approaches which allow for competency in all units within each cluster to be demonstrated and which satisfy the critical aspects for assessment and evidence requirements. The assessment tasks have been mapped to the requirements of each unit as part of validation. Assessment methods include: Verbal question and answers Written question and answers Case study scenario assignments Role plays simulating workplace activities observed by the Assessor Use of sample workplace documentation Self-assessment Third party supervision of work place tasks Workplace assessment/observation/journal Class activities Assessments are provided for each unit and need to be fully completed and assessed as competent so a student can be marked as competent for each unit. Assessments should be submitted electronically to training@3bridges.org.au. student should keep a copy of their assessments. 4 RESOURCES T & A Staff Facilities and equipment Training and assessment materials Direct teaching/tutorial/support trainer with relevant vocational competencies and minimum TAE40110 Certificate IV Training and Assessment (or equivalent). 3Bridges will liaise with host organisations/ employers regarding the appointment of suitable Workplace Supervisors for observation and mentoring of students during work placements and provision of third party evidence. For the face to face training and assessment component 3Bridges uses classrooms of a size commensurate with class size, suitably equipped with audio visual equipment. These will either be at 3Bridges s premises or at a similarly equipped hired venue. The Work Placement component utilises the facilities and equipment of host organisations/ employers under formal agreements with 3Bridges. 3Bridges ensures that these organisations have the required resources and equipment to allow students to learn and be assessed against the relevant elements and performance criteria of the units of competency. Students will be provided with Learner Resource Books for each cluster containing the associated assessment tasks. Supplementary resources will include Power point presentations Subject reading guide and related texts Trainer support materials Internet use for research The context of and specific resources for assessment for units within this qualification may require: access to an actual workplace or simulated environment access to typical equipment and resources used in the workplace examples of workplace documentation To meet these requirements the following resources may be utilised: Simulated workplace in the classroom with use of associated resources Access to relevant legislation via internet Examples of workplace documentation such as policies and procedures and associated forms Work placement with a suitable organisation For the Work Placement component students will be provided with a Student Placement Journal to record activities carried out under the supervision of a workplace supervisor, linked to the units of competency. All 3Bridges Trainers/ Assessors are provided with the following: Copy of training package qualifications and assessment guidelines for the qualification. Timetables and associated session plans identifying what will be taught, when it will occur and the resources to be used. Assessment resources including marking/ evidence guides to ensure consistency and reliability of assessment. Qualification Structure V2 CHC52212 Diploma of Community Services Coordination Page 4 of 5
