2 BACKGROUND + = 800 Members The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is a trade association in the offshore marine construction industries. Today IMCA represents the vast majority of marine contractors and the associated supply chain in the world with around 800 members in 65 countries. Our mission is to Improve performance in the marine contracting industry Our value proposition is to influence the industry in key technical, contractual, policy and regulatory matters that are in the collective best interest of the marine contracting industry. 2

4 WHAT IS THE ecmid? Dates from the paper version established in 1999 to the electronic version developed in Provides vessel assurance, risk and safety management Provides the International Offshore Shipping Industry with a standardised ship inspection tool and database For large offshore vessels, (1999) and Small Workboats (emisw) launched in 2012 Valuable use to ship Charterers and other clients Examines all aspects of the ship s/company s safety management system 4
5 WHY ecmid? Many of the codes and regulations which apply to the Marine Industry arise from some disaster or other misfortune ecmid ensures regular health checks on a vessel s Safety Management System 5
6 ISM ecmid - NOT A TICK IN THE BOX! To get an appreciation of the importance and some of the events leading up to the ISM Code a quick historical reminder may be useful and also provide very good reasons why an Accredited Vessel Inspector (AVI) should never think that any part of the ecmid and the ISM component of the ecmid is only a.. 6

ISM Code section: 1.2 Objectives The opening part says it all The objectives of the Code are to ensure safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and avoidance of damage to the environment, in particular to the marine environment and property. 11 ecmid CURRENT STATUS Now on version 10 of software continuous development process All ecmid inspections are now stored on the ecmid database and only accredited ship inspectors are able to upload their inspection reports Covers the full range of different types of offshore vessels using additional question supplements for the following: Diving Support Cable-lay Anchor Handling Offshore Supply Heavy Lift Survey/ Seismic Oil recovery LNG Fuelled offshore vessels Jack-ups 11

14 USE OF ACCREDITED VESSEL INSPECTORS Inspector accreditation launched in 2015 IMCA recognise the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) ship inspector accreditation scheme Vessel owners and clients have driven this change to the system Approaching 400 accredited vessel inspectors Following the principles of ISO Guidance for Auditing Management Systems The client can be assured that the vessel inspector is suitably competent (i.e. has the under pinning knowledge, experience and familiarisation required) for the type of vessel they are inspecting 14
15 PURPOSE OF ecmid A key tool to verify that ISM processes are being effectively applied onboard With the assurance it has been carried out by an AVI Audit reports can be shown to Flag as evidence of ISM/SMS checks. 15
16 WASH-UP IMCA plans further developments to the ecmid software, website, question sets and the accreditation scheme. Ultimately we all wish to see safety and how it s managed, on ALL ship types, improve. 16
