If you are a new user go to microchipdirect.com and select the Log In/Register tab at the top navigation bar. Once the page refreshes select the Register Now button and complete the two step process. It s that easy... you re ready to start shopping Add the desired part number to the search key. Select the go tab. Enter the desired quantity and select the Add to Cart tab. Proceed to check out or continue shopping. Edit your profile in My Account You can easily update your profi le information by logging in to microchipdirect and selecting the top level navigation link labeled My Account. After the screen refreshes, you can edit your profi le, including address(es), password and payment options. Select Save Profile before leaving the page to secure your changes. 5 Request a Quote Request a quote You can request a quote using the Services tab drop down menu: Cursor over the top navigation link Services, select Request Quote Fill out the following fi elds: Quantity Requested Price Select the Add Item button to add the product to your quote shopping cart Use the drop down options on this page to select any additional products to be quoted, adding them to your Quote Shopping Cart When all items have been added to the quote, select Submit Quote Request to send the request to your Microchip sales representative. 6 Check Quote Status View the status of your quote request When a quote request is submitted, notification is sent to your local Microchip sales offi ce for review. Using the information submitted, the Microchip sales representative determines the best price available for the parts requested. Once the sales representative completes the review, an approved price is assigned to your quote. You can log in to your account on microchipdirect to view and use your quoted pricing. Quote requests are typically completed within 24 hours. To view your quote request: Cursor over the top navigation link Services, select Check Quote Status The status field indicates whether your quote is complete or not A status of submitted or requested means the quote request is being processed A status of approved means the quote is ready to be used and an order can be placed The quantity fi eld shows the maximum number of units you may order using this quote The quote price is the approved price that can be used for each quoted item in your microchipdirect order The minimum drop quantity is the minimum number of units that must be ordered in each microchipdirect order that uses this quote Enter a quantity in the Add field, then select the Add to Cart button to automatically add the item to your shopping cart 6

7 Place an Order, Schedule an Order and Assign Part Numbers Use your quote to place an order Once your quote request has been approved, you may use it to place an order at microchipdirect. Applying a quote from your shopping cart Cursor over and select the top navigation link My Cart to view quoted items All line items that have a valid quote will be indicated with the text, Apply Quote, and an arrow adjacent to the price column Select the arrow for each line item ordered to apply the quoted price; the order price will be updated automatically when the quote is applied Schedule a future order To place an order for future delivery: Cursor over and select the top navigation link My Cart Add the desired line items to your shopping cart Within the shopping cart, a calendar will appear near each line item in the Shipping Information column; select the date you wish to have each item shipped Proceed to Checkout to complete your order Provide your own part number for each item You can provide your own part numbers for items ordered through microchipdirect. This part number will be displayed on the invoice you receive with your shipment. To use this feature: Cursor over and select the top navigation link My Cart Add the desired line items to your shopping cart In the Product column, enter your own part number in the Customer Part No: fi eld; select Update Cart after each entry; repeat for each line item ordered Proceed to Checkout to complete your order One-stop shopping for microcontrollers, digital signal controllers, analog and serial EEPROMs. 7

8 Changes to Orders Change the ship-to address, requested ship date or line item quantities on your order At microchipdirect, you can request a change to the ship-to address, ship date or line item quantity that has been placed against a credit line. It is important to note that if your order is currently being processed for delivery, you cannot change the ship-to address or the requested ship date. Changing the ship-to address, ship date or line item quantity on an order may not show up immediately in your order history. The change request must be transferred to our warehouse shipping system and generally requires one hour to make the adjustment. A follow-up will be sent to confi rm that the change was processed for your order. Once the transfer has occurred, the change will be refl ected in your order history. If the order is already being picked for shipment in the warehouse, the request will automatically be denied and an sent indicating that the change could not be made. Change your shipping information To change the ship-to address or ship date on an order that has been placed: Select the My Account tab Select the Change, Cancel or Return Order(s) link located beneath Order Management Select the order number you wish to change To submit a new shipping address, select the Change link located beneath the ship-to address (see image below) To modify the order quantity, select the Change link located next to the quantity value in each line item To request a new shipping date, select the Change link located in the line item section of the order (beneath the ship date and requested ship date fi elds). If your order is currently being processed for delivery, changes to the ship-to address or the requested ship date can not be made. 8

9 Add Additional Users to Your Account Account Roles There are three roles within your microchipdirect account: Master User, Account Manager and Buyer. The Master User can set limits on the size of any credit line order for any linked user (does not apply to credit card orders). The Account Manager can set an order limit on any Buyer they invite and are linked to (up to the value of the Account Manager s order limit) for credit line orders. Master Users can change orders for themselves, Account Managers and Buyers to which they are linked. Account Managers can change orders for themselves and any Buyers to which they are linked. Buyers can only change their own orders. To issue an invitation: Select the top level navigation item My Account Select the "Manage Participants" link located beneath Business Account Management From the "Manage Participants" page, select the link Invite Participant Complete the new user information ( address, first name, last name and order limit) Read the terms and conditions, and select the "I Agree" button Select the "Send Invitation" button An will be sent to the invited user providing them with instructions on how to accept the invitation. 10 Manage Account Users Manage user s accounts When the invited user has accepted the invitation, you will be notifi ed via . To finish the setup process: Select the top level navigation item My Account Select the "Manage Participants" link located beneath Business Account Management From the "Manage Participants" page, select the Approve button next to the invited user s name This fi nal approval process offers protection in case an invitation is sent to an incorrect recipient. The "Resend" button allows you to resend the if the invited user did not receive the message (make sure any anti-spam software is turned off). The "Remove" button is available to unlink an account at any time. After the invited user is approved, the Master User can elevate the role from a Buyer to an Account Manager. When to make a Buyer an Account Manager If that person needs to request their own quotes If that person is the primary purchasing agent at a different physical location If that person oversees purchasing for different divisions or business units Elevate a user s role Select the top level navigation item My Account Select the "Manage Participants" link located beneath Business Account Management From the User s Role column, select the title Account Manager from the drop down list The Master User can also increase or decrease a user s order limits from this screen 10

12 Create a Programming Order Step 1: Define Your Project Creating a project provides an easy method to reference and upload your application code. Once you ve logged into your microchipdirect account, mouse over the Services tab, select Add Code to Your Device followed by Active Projects. In the Active Projects page, select Start A New Project. You are asked to provide a project name and contact information so that Microchip can contact you regarding the status of a verifi cation order. Once all information has been completed, select Add Project and your Project Details are displayed. Step 3: Upload Your Application Code Once you ve selected your PIC microcontroller you are now ready to upload your application code in hex format. Browse your local computer or network for your application code and then select Update. You can upload confi dently knowing that your application code is encrypted and secured by Microchip. Step 2: Select Your PIC Microcontroller In your Project Details page select Add Additional Part and Confi gurations and assign a Program Name to your project. Now determine which PIC microcontroller you are associating with your application code. To ensure your project is processed accurately, a checksum is required during the programming and quality control steps to verify that the parts have been programmed properly. When selecting your PIC microcontroller, you can also determine the product packaging media required for your production orders (i.e. Tape & Reel, Tray, Tube, Bulk, etc.). Note that this has no effect on verifi cation sample orders. All verifi cation sample orders are shipped in sample box packaging media. Step 4: Select Payment Method for Set-Up Fee Each project created requires an initial one-time, nominal set-up fee which provides initial code verifi cation samples and related shipping fees. This one-time setup fee must be paid before verifi cation orders can be placed. In your Project Details, select Pay Setup Fee and select the appropriate method of payment. Upon Order Receipt Confirmation, print a copy of your invoice for your records and select Continue, Place Order Verifi cation. Once paid, your Project Details are updated to show how many verifi cation orders are available for a particular project. In the event that you use all of your verifi cation order credits, additional credits are available for purchase. Please note that in addition to the one-time setup fee, there is a per unit programming cost based upon the selected PIC microcontroller and unit volume. Per unit price details are given after you select your specifi c PIC microcontroller and prior to paying the one-time setup fee. 12

13 Create a Programming Order Step 5: Place a Verification Order You are now ready to place a verifi cation sample order at no additional charge. This provides the opportunity to have your application code programmed onto samples of your selected PIC microcontroller to verify programming accuracy before placing an actual production order. In your Project Details, select Place Verifi cation Order for the version of code you wish to have verified. Next, provide an address of where the verifi cation samples are to be sent, then select Select Address. A confi rmation screen summarizing the selected PIC microcontroller with associated application code and estimated shipment date is then displayed. If all information is correct, select Confirm to initiate your verification sample order. Step 6: Approve Your Code with Your PIC Microcontroller Upon receiving your verifi cation sample order from Microchip, it is strongly recommended that you test them in your application to ensure that your programmed parts work as expected. In the event that a coding error has occurred, ensure that your application code correctly operates before returning to your microchipdirect programming project. After making the appropriate corrections to the application code, you can update your project with the latest version of your application code (hex fi le) and request a new verification sample order. Once you have verified that your application code and associated PIC microcontroller work properly in your platform, return to your microchipdirect account, mouse over the Services tab, select the Add Code to Your Device tab followed by the Active Projects tab and select the appropriate project from the list. Your Project Details are displayed and then select Approve. By approving your verifi cation sample order, you are assuring that the application code you have uploaded into your project is working as expected and is without material fl aw. Upon approval, you can place production-quantity PIC microcontroller orders with your application code. To place a production order, mouse over the Services tab and select My Programmed Devices. A list of your current approved projects are displayed. Simply enter the order quantity of the PIC microcontroller associated with your project and select Add to Cart, followed by Checkout then complete your transaction. 14 Receive Notifications Subscribe to lead time notifications You can subscribe to notifications for lead times based on the part number to see the number of units in stock at that time, and the lead time for that device is shown in calendar days. To subscribe: Cursor over the Services tab and select Lead Time Subscription Select a product line, and after the page refreshes, select a device family A list of parts will be displayed beneath the device family, indicate the devices you are interested in by selecting the "Add" button next to each line Remove your subscriptions at any time by returning to this page and selecting the "Remove" button next to each device Your personal information is secure throughout your transaction microchipdirect encrypts passwords and uses Secured Socket Layers (SSL) on order submissions. We will not disclose your address or any other address contained in your registration form to anyone or any mail list. This information will be kept confi dential at Microchip. microchipdirect is a VeriSign Secure Site and uses VeriSign technologies for encryption. We use 256-bit encryption to secure the fi nancial information you enter. Only the last five digits of your credit card number are listed in your Order Acknowledgement. However, your entire credit card number is transmitted to your credit card company during order processing and your identifying and credit information is transmitted to companies that process your credit card transactions and review them for export control violations.
