17 Florida s Seaport Infrastructure Currently, Florida seaports generate more than 680,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute $96 billion in economic value to the state through cargo and cruise activities $85.6 billion in waterborne international trade came through Florida ports in 2012 $90.3 billion was generated in economic value by the Florida ports $287 million has been identified in seaport and intermodal projects for the FY Work Program
18 Florida Intermodal Projects PortMiami Deep Dredge Deepen the Port s existing channel and making PortMiami the only U.S. port south of Norfolk, Virginia, that can accommodate the new, mega cargo vessels that will pass through the expanded Panama Canal. PortMiami Tunnel This tunnel provides a direct connection between the Seaport, Airport and the Interstate Highway System making downtown streets safer and relieving congestion on downtown streets. Port Everglades Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Transfer intermodal containers between ship and rail, to process containers originating in or destined for the South Florida market Port Everglades Southport Turning Notch Extension: This project will lengthen the existing STN from 900 feet to 2,400 feet at the existing depth of 42 feet. This project will provide for up to five additional berths.
