With our Green Containerboard initiative, we provide information at a glance about which green standard the paper grade corresponds to. Green Containerboard involves four elements: sustainable forestry, biodegradability, conserving resources and lightweight solutions. Find out more about Green Containerboard at WWF partnership Since 2014 Mondi Group and WWF have been working together in a three-year strategic partnership centralising on promoting environmental stewardship in the packaging and paper sectors. The work of the partnership focuses on minimising the impacts of Mondi s operations on forests, climate and water, sharing our initiatives and encouraging sustainable practices in the industry. The partnership is based on three areas of work: The future of our mills is green In 2014 we started one of our largest ongoing projects, Green Phase I, which is approaching the finish line in The investment includes the installation of a new recovery boiler and the replacement of two coal fired boilers with a biomass boiler utilising the old recovery unit. In addition to increasing the efficiency of energy eneration, the new boiler will emit significantly less g dust than the original unit and will generate 100% of the plant s steam and electricity. The biomass boilers obtain roughly one-third of their fuel from by-products of the pulp process. The remainder consists of residual roots and tree branches from our forestry operations, with the addition of sawdust from our mills and agricultural by-products. The r esulting low carbon electricity is used to drive the plant, with the excess electricity sold into the local grid. In 2016 we will also start Green Phase II, a follow-up to Phase I which will lead to the recovery and BFB boilers reaching their full capacity.
