1 2018 Plumbing Apprenticeship Training Information CPC32413 Certificate III in Plumbing - RTO 1892 The CPC32413 Certificate III in Plumbing units are divided into 6 stages of training over a 4 year apprenticeship. Students who have completed a Plumbing Pre Apprenticeship may be eligible for credits for some stage 1 & 2 units. Please note Pre Apprentice students may need to complete some GAP training prior to commencing Stage 3. To commence your apprenticeship training with MPA Skills you must: 1. Be employed as an Apprentice Plumber 2. Sign a contract with the assistance of an Apprentice Support Network (ASN) (for more information you can contact the Apprenticeship Office ) 3. Choose MPA Skills as your training provider with your ASN Once your ASN has notified the Apprenticeship Office of your training provider preference, we will be notified. MPA Skills will contact the employer & student to arrange a Training Plan. It is important the Apprentice, Employer and Training Provider sign the Training Plan as soon as possible (penalties can apply for late Training Plans). 2 CPC32413 Certificate III in Plumbing Training Information Attendance Training commences at 8.00am and finishes at 3.30pm, Apprentices must attend all classes. Please do not be late! Missed classes may result in non-completion of the qualification. A fee will be charged for any additional classes required. If a student is unable to attend due to sickness they must phone reception on to notify. Unique Student Identifier (USI) Every student must have a USI number prior to commencing training. What is a USI? The Unique Student Identifier or USI is a reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters that: Creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, even from different training organisations Will give you access to your training records and transcripts (available in late 2016) Can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere Is free and easy to create and Stays with you for life Visit the USI website ( to obtain a USI. If you have not given us your USI already you can text it with your full name to Travel If your apprentice requires flights to be booked to attend training, please apprentice@mpaskills.com.au the attached Travel Form as soon as possible with the dates you require. If you would like reimbursement for petrol or accommodation please log onto Accommodation-Allowance-claim-form-for-apprenticestrainees.aspx Invoices Invoices will be issued to students around 2 weeks prior to each stage commencement date. Please do not make a payment until you have been issued your invoice as you will need your invoice number as a reference when making a payment. Invoices MUST be paid prior to attending training. 3 Text Books Text books are to be purchased separately, the attached Text Book Order Form outlines which books are required for each stage and the prices. You can purchase your books by bringing the completed order form on your first day of training to our bookshop (we prefer payment by card but if paying by cash ensure you have the exact amount as we are not able to provide change). Students must bring the text books outlined in the attached Book List to every class.. If your employer is paying for your books please ask them to complete the credit card section on the Text Book Order Form and bring to day one of your training. It is mandatory that apprentices bring the AS3500 (current version 2015) Gas Standards Regulations to all classes. Students are welcome to borrow books from employers but they must be the current versions. Protective Clothing It is mandatory for all apprentices to wear trade appropriate long sleeved shirt and long trousers that comply with a fire retardant classification (class EN clause 7.3) and steel cap boots to AS/NZS 2210 at all times in the workshop areas. Safety Clothing and footwear compliant to the relevant standards can be purchased from any reputable safety supplier such as Safety World, RSEA etc. Gas Permit Students MUST have a Restricted G Class Gas Permit issued by Energy Safety prior to commencing any stage. Students who do not have a restricted Gas Permit Course must enrol into the course for an additional cost of 300 which is invoiced separately. Once the student has successfully completed the Restricted Gas Permit course they will receive a letter from MPA Skills stating they are competent in Gas Safety, Gas Legislation, Gas Combustion & Fluing. This letter will enable the student to apply to Energy Safety for their Restricted Gas Permit. For more information log onto the Energy Safety Website: MY Profiling Log Books MPA Skills are now going paperless with the Gas Workplace Log Book. To monitor your progress the online Gas Workplace Log Book will state the work tasks to be completed with verification by recording the Notice of Completion Numbers. Energy Safety requires trainees to record a number hours of gas related work tasks under supervision, the exact number of hours is dependent on when the apprenticeship contract was signed or training commenced. Please see the table below. 4 Student Handbook Students are required to read the MPA Skills Student Handbook prior to attending any training at MPA Skills. The handbook can be found on our website On Completion of your Apprenticeship Once an apprentice has completed all the Off the Job training, MPA Skills will the employer a Completion Form which is to be signed by the apprentice & employer and ed back to us. MPA Skills will then issue the Certificate III qualification. On the completion date we will post the Certificate to the apprentice and notify the Apprenticeship Office who will issue the apprentice a Trade Certificate. The apprentice will take both the Certificate III & the Trade certificate to the Plumbing Licensing Board to apply for their Tradespersons Licence. You can log onto Apprentices can also take their results to Energy Safety to apply for their Gas Permit (only once a Gas Log Book has been completed) Early Completion Request If you have completed all the required units for CPC32413 Certificate III in Plumbing and your employer deems you competent On the Job, you can apply for an Early Completion. To do this, please apprentice@mpaskills.com.au and we will send your employer the Early Completion form to complete. Please note that the Early Completion Date will need to be no early than 2 weeks from the request to allow us enough time to process the completion.
