1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Teaching and Learning Coach Post no: 2035 Salary: Responsible to: Location: Working hours: Job purpose: 33-35K per annum Teaching and Learning Manager Nottingham 37 hours per week, full time To contribute to the creation of a new teacher development strategy and work closely with teachers across the full range of the college provision to assess and enhance the quality of the learning experience and to secure consistently good and outstanding learning and progress General college responsibilities: To act corporately at all times and lead on college initiatives as directed To effectively contribute towards the delivery of a high quality educational experience for all students, delivering services in a way that is appropriate and responsive and which displays the highest standards of customer care. To observe all college policies / procedures / working practices / regulations and in particular to comply with the College s Equality and Diversity Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Financial Regulations, Safeguarding Policy and the Code of Conduct. To effectively disseminate information to staff and feedback opinions, acting as a channel of communication for the identified area of responsibility To undertake appropriate training and staff development. To effectively manage and develop any staff reporting through to the post holder. As part of the management team, to be visible and accessible to staff. To identify and develop individual contribution in the delivery of the college competency framework Page 1 of 5

Main duties and responsibilities: To contribute to the creation of a new teacher development strategy to secure consistently good and outstanding learning and progress To design and deliver one to one and group activities, in consultation with Curriculum Managers, to improve teaching, learning and assessment To coach and mentor teachers who have graded observations at Grade 3 and Grade 4 to enable them to move to at least a Grade 2 To act as a mentor for new teachers conducting probationary observations, monitoring outcomes and providing support as appropriate To contribute to the development and use of peer observation, joint professional development, supported experiments and similar to support the professional development of teachers who consistently facilitate good or better learning and progress To keep abreast of best practice related to learning, teaching and assessment and to disseminate this information effectively within the college To develop innovative learning methods and resources and cascade across the college to improve teaching, learning and assessment To undertake formal graded lesson observations and perform learning walks To provide verbal and written feedback following lesson observations and learning walks To participate in lesson observation standardisation and moderation processes To escalate Grade 3 and 4 Lesson Observations in accordance with the College policy To work with Curriculum Managers to ensure that lesson observation action plans are appropriate, effective and drive improvement, and that these link into the PDS process. To ensure, working with Curriculum Managers, that individual personal development needs are captured within the lesson observation action plan, and that these link into the PDS process To collaborate with curriculum management to monitor performance, provide feedback and support priorities for development To contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems within the Quality team, specifically in the area of teaching, learning and assessment taking the lead for a key priority for development To work with the relevant college manager and curriculum teams to promote the use of technology to support improvements in learning, teaching and assessment To work with the relevant college managers and Curriculum Teams to further embed health and safety, EDI, employability and English and maths development within the curriculum and at the learning interface Page 2 of 5

3 Note To undertake development activities as directed by the Head of Quality to improve teaching, learning and assessment practices This Job Description provides an overview of the principal accountabilities of the post and accountabilities will include but will not be limited to those detailed. It is anticipated that the content of roles will evolve and change over time and such the balance of duties within the job description will change within the broad remit of the post. 4 The college operates a Job Evaluation Scheme, which is an equitable, fair and transparent way of determining the relative size of all Business Support jobs at the college; ensuring that jobs of equal value receive equal pay. The process evaluates the job rather than the person undertaking the job and assesses a range of factors to achieve an overall point s score. According to the points score, the post is aligned to a grade on the Support Pay scale. College Competencies The competency framework is a key element of our organisational culture. Experience of providing staff development to groups of staff which has resulted in improvements in the quality of teaching, learning and assessment 7. Experience of conducting observations and making judgments in line with the standards identified in the current Common Inspection Framework. 8. Experience of coaching and mentoring individual staff which has raised standards. 9. Experience of using technology to support assessment/monitoring which has resulted in improvements in the quality of assessment. Knowledge 10. Knowledge of current thinking, best practice research into TLA methods and the impact of these on the quality of learning. Skills and Qualities 11.
