1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post Title: SENIOR CLINICAL ADVISOR Location: Home based with routine attendance at Head Office, Bury. To attend meetings and functions across the UK and Ireland as necessary. Post Grade: Scale P09 59,121 FTE1 ( 35,472, pro-rata) Post Hours: FTE 0.6 of 37 Special Conditions of Service: Flexitime Scheme in operation, subject to adequate cover arrangements. Initial two-year contract of employment. Purpose and Objectives of Post: The post holder will: Maintain and enhance the reputation and standing of the BABCP and CBT via a variety of means including attending external functions and meetings, answering media enquiries and engaging with third parties as necessary. Ensure that critical stakeholders and stakeholder groups in BABCP such as politicians, commissioners of psychological services receive appropriate, accurate and relevant information in respect of BABCP and CBT. Be responsible for all day to day aspects of BABCP work which relate to the clinical, educational and research aspects of CBT. Accountable to: The Board of Trustees via the President and Honorary Secretary Line Managed by: Company Secretary Immediately Responsible for: No staff or budgetary responsibility
2 Control of Resources: To generate and maintain a positive reputation for BABCP and CBT. Main Contacts: BABCP Senior staff Board of Trustees, National Committees Forum and other committees, Branches and SIGs Leaders and representatives of other health related organisations Politicians, commissioners and other critical stakeholders Duties/Responsibilities: 1. To liaise closely with clinical leaders, researchers, politicians, commissioners and other critical stakeholders across the UK and Ireland to ensure that all appropriate internal stakeholders have up to date information on issues relevant to CBT and other associated information. 2. To liaise closely with other UK organizations involved in policy and practice related to health and, in particular, mental health to ensure that BABCP can approach broad issues of relevance to all psychotherapies from an informed position. 3. To respond to requests for information from the press and other stakeholders about CBT in a timely fashion. 4. To write press releases and attend to media enquiries about aspects of CBT and broader related issues in a timely and accurate fashion. 5. To write accurate reports about current issues related to CBT for at the request of the Board and for the benefit of other reporting committees. 6. To liaise closely with individual BABCP departments and committees as required. 7. To attend functions and meetings country wide regarding issues related to the BABCP and CBT by agreement. 8. To act as the primary source of support for BABCP office staff regarding matters related to clinical practice (e.g. clinical inquiries received by or generated within BABCP office). 9. To ensure that BABCP policies related to clinical, educational and research practice are appropriately implemented across the organization. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Assessment method General Experience Criteria Be highly familiar with clinical practice in the NHS Be highly familiar with CBT, its evidence base and efficacy Considerable continued clinical experience in the delivery of cognitive behavioural psychotherapy across a variety of settings and at a senior level Essential Desirable Score range Knowledge, abilities & skills Understanding of and commitment to promotion of the role of users of CBT services and the wider public in contributing to CBT practice and the work of BABCP Understanding of and commitment to the promotion of equality and diversity in CBT practice. A broad knowledge of different forms of psychotherapy, including evidence base and efficacy An understanding and appreciation of the private, public (including academic) and charity sectors and the connections and relationships between the many and varied types of organisations within those sectors An understanding and knowledge of the media, how to access it, how to present at, be able to access a range of media sources through personal connection or knowledge of the relevant media channels. To participate in media training as required. Extremely high-quality all-round communication skills Ability to think on their feet in rapidly developing situations, and be able to respond succinctly and effectively 4
