2 PDAC Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) With students positioned to be the future of the mineral exploration industry, PDAC is committed to helping ensure that they graduate with the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in the industry. The 12 th annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) will be held May 2-18, 2018 in Sudbury, ON. Twenty-six of the top nominated third and fourth-year Canadian geoscience post-secondary students will be selected to attend the workshop where they will learn about the extensive variety of careers in the mineral exploration industry and the adventures of being a geoscientist. The workshop held at Cambrian College will offer students the opportunity to participate in lectures, presentations and field trips that will touch on exploration techniques and mineral deposits, geophysics, geochemistry, regulatory requirements, environmental sciences, health and safety, and corporate social responsibility. These presentations are delivered by volunteers from the geoscience industry and will better prepare students for the workforce. We invite you to visit this link to view a brief video about the workshop. One of the many highlights of this program will be a four-day field trip to the Val d Or mining camp and Rouyn-Noranda, QC. The enclosed material outlines the various ways your organization can become involved by providing sponsorship funds or in-kind contributions while increasing your corporate profile. 8 Silver Level - $3,000 Opportunity to sponsor one of the following events: Sudbury Basin Field Trip (SOLD) Students participate in a full day field trip around the Sudbury Basin allowing them to appreciate the geology, mineralization and history of this world class nickel camp. Government Mapping Day Students learn regional bedrock mapping techniques in the field including demonstration of in-field digital data collection followed by interpretation of the bedrock data with the Ontario Geological Survey. Exploration Geophysics Day Students participate in a full day of hands-on geophysical technique demonstrations done in the field followed by practical in-class lectures on the theory behind the demonstrations. Geochemistry Day (SOLD) Students participate in a full day of hands-on geochemical sampling (lake sediment and soil sampling), indicator minerals exercises, surveying and a tour of the Ontario Geoscience Laboratories in Sudbury. Exploration Mapping Day Students participate in a full day of grid mapping with an exploration team from a junior exploration company, collecting and reviewing data from an active mineral exploration project in the Sudbury region. Field Trip: Rouyn-Noranda (May 13-14) Students travel from Sudbury to Rouyn-Noranda to study the geology of the Noranda caldera and participate in a VMS mapping exercise. Field Trip: Val d Or (May 15-16) (SOLD) Students travel from Rouyn-Noranda to Val d Or and study the geology of the mining camp and participate in mine tours. A stop at the Pykes Hill komatiites is also included in the field trip.
