1 BAYFIELD COUNTY, WI REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS BAYFIELD COUNTY MAINENANCE GARAGE TUCKPOINTING PROJECT Due May 23, E Fifth Street, PO 878 Washburn, WI Bayfield County is accepting proposals for tuckpointing the Bayfield County Maintenance Garage AND several adjacent building (brick and concrete block) crack and backing repairs. The buildings are adjacent to the Bayfield County Courthouse and across the street at the Annex/Sheriff s building located at 117 E Fifth and Sixth Streets, Washburn, WI. Bayfield County reserves the right to reject any and all proposals received, to waive or not waive irregularities and to accept or further negotiate terms or conditions of any bid determined to be in the County s best interest. SPECIFICATIONS: Garage The existing maintenance garage has a red brick exterior, existing mortar is worn away in many areas, there are areas of missing brick, old utility cuts, concrete patches, cracked bricks, and missing mortar. Areas will be cleaned and cracked, worn or missing areas will be prepared for new materials and new mortar. North / Garage Door Side of Building: Complete grind, top to bottom and re-mortar. South / Parking Lot Side of Building: Grind all areas below 6 feet and re-mortar. Individual areas that are bad above six feet should be addressed as well. West Wall / facing courthouse: Grind and re-mortar areas as necessary, caution working around utilities. East Wall / within fenced areas: East wall is in good condition. Knee wall extending out from building however is in poor condition. Please include a proposal for type of repair. Other The Annex and Sheriff s Department has a number of cracks that have developed over the past decade. These cracks need grinding, backing and caulking. CONTRACTOR: The Contractor must be experienced in tuck-pointing, mortaring joints and brick/concrete crack repairs. Please provide references of similar projects, include name and contact numbers.

2 Contractor is responsible for minimizing noise, dust and dirt impacts on the county facility, adjacent buildings, vehicles and visitors. Contractor must use appropriate caution operating around electrical and gas utilities. Courthouse gas and electric feeds come through the garage. The east and south sides of the garage structure have high pressure natural gas lines. County will shut down compressed natural gas fueling system while grinding takes place. In carrying out pointing work, contractor must ensure that: 1) removal of the existing mortar does not damage the brickwork; 2) the mortar color, appearance, and tooling of joints matches the original exactly; and 3) the new mortar is sufficiently soft to prevent damage to the original brickwork. Unless lab testing reveals that the original mortar is unusually hard, the building should be pointed using mortar that is no harder than ASTM, Type N, which consists of 1 part Portland cement, 1 part hydrated lime and 6 parts sand. To match the color of the original mortar, the mason may need to use white, rather than gray, Portland cement tinted to match the existing. Mortar and caulking colors to be matched as close as possible. COUNTY: County will provide necessary electricity, water and restroom facilities for the project. TIMING: To be completed by July 30, Contractor to provide Bayfield County 1 week notice prior to beginning. Preference given if grinding could be done after hours or on a weekend. INSURANCE: Contractor shall provide proof of liability coverage and workers compensation coverage. WARRANTY: Mortared joints and crack repairs shall be guaranteed for labor and materials for a period of 36 months after completion.
